Mercedes Benz India will launch the high performance version of the GLA crossover, the GLA 45 AMG version, on the 27th of October, 2014. The GLA 45 AMG is expected to be pricier than the most recent AMG powered car that Mercedes Benz launched in India, the CLA 45 AMG high performance sedan.
Expect the GLA 45 AMG’s price to be pegged at a little over 70 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. As is the case with all Mercedes Benz AMG spec cars sold in India, the GLA 45 AMG will be a completely built unit (CBU) import. The crossover will be sold through all Mercedes Benz dealerships in India.
The GLA 45 AMG will be the most powerful luxury crossover in its segment comprising of competitors such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Volvo V40. The GLA 45 AMG will be powered by a 2 liter-4 cylinder turbo charged petrol engine that outputs 360 Bhp of peak power and 450 Nm of peak torque.
Torque transmission to all four wheels of the high performance crossover will happen by means of an all wheel drive layout. The high performance AMG-spec turbo petrol engine is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. Top speed is rated at an electronically limited 250 Kph while 0-100 Kph will come in just 4.6 seconds.
This kind of performance will mean that the GLA 45 AMG is simply the king of the hill among its peers, none of whom bring a no-holds-barred hopped up model to the table. Audi and Volvo could respond in the years to come with the likes of the SQ3 and the R-Edition variants though.
Over the past half a decade or so, Mercedes Benz India has been serving up a slew of high performance, AMG badged cars for the Indian car market. From sedans to SUVs, the hallowed AMG badge adorns a range of Mercedes Benz vehicles sold in India. This gives the brand a unique place in the market, as far as everyday usable, high performance cars are concerned.
