Toyota Qualis was a very popular MPV that was launched in our market in 2000. It quickly became popular among buyers and was a common sight on our roads. It was later discontinued in 2004 and was replaced with Innova. Qualis competed with cars like Mahindra Bolero and Tata Sumo in the segment. We still have couple of well kept examples in the country and people still love to keep this MPV because of its no-nonsense styling, spacious interiors and reliable engine. Here we have a video that shows how a rusty old Toyota Qualis is beautifully restored.
The video has been uploaded by Jzone tools on their Youtube channel. The video starts by showing the condition of the vehicle when it had reached the garage. Almost all the panels on this Qualis had started rusting and as this was an old car, the paint had also faded out. As part of the restoration, all the seats inside the car is taken out and all the panels that were facing rust issues are mended. The floor and other parts on the inside were also affected by rust and that was also corrected.

The dashboard of the car was looking very old and in order to give it a fresh look, the whole panel is given a carbon fibre finish. The steering wheel, stereo and other elements remain the same. The whole car has been restored inside out and looks brand new. As mentioned above, the stock paint on the Qualis had faded away and it is now given a gun metal grey paint job.
Other modifications on the car include a new set of 16 inch alloys. The headlight also gets minor tweaks like a small LED bar which acts as a DRL. This was a type 1 Toyota Qualis and the front grille has been replaced with a type 2 unit. The interiors on this car have also been slightly tweaked to give it a fresh look on the inside.
The engine on this car remains the same and still uses the 2.4 litre diesel engine that generates 75 Bhp and 151 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Overall, the restoration work looks neat and beautiful. The work done on this car is so commendable that it looks like a brand new Toyota Qualis that has just rolled out of the production line. We wish more such Qualis MPVs get restored.
