Olympic medal winner Mirabai Chanu gets awarded a Renault Kiger compact SUV

Renault India has gifted a Kiger compact SUV to Olympic Medalist, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu. She was awarded a silver medal at the Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Sudhir Malhotra, Vice President- Sales and Marketing, Renault India handed over the keys of the Kiger to Mirabai Chanu.

The Kiger is the latest offering from the manufacturer in the Indian market and it has been doing decently well. One of the main reasons behind the success of the Kiger is its low price. The Kiger is one of the most affordable compact SUVs that you can get in our country. It is aimed towards people who wanted a compact SUV but could not consider it because it was out of their budget.

Pricing and competitors

The Kiger starts at Rs. 5.64 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 10.09 lakhs ex-showroom. The Kiger competes in one of the toughest segments of the automobile industry. It goes against Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 300.

Variants and Colours

The Kiger is offered in five variants. There are RXE, RXL, RXT, RXT(O) and RXZ. It is offered six colours, namely Radiant Red, Caspian Blue, Moonlight Silver, Planet Grey, Ice Cool White and Mahogany Brown. You can also get a dual-tone paint scheme on RXT, RXT(O) and RXZ.

There are also five accessory packs available with the Kiger. There is Smart, Smart Plus, SUV, Attractive and Essential. The Smart accessory pack offers front parking sensors, trunk light, armrest console organizer and 3D floor mat. The Smart Plus adds a puddle lamp, ambient lighting, an air purifier, wireless charger and all the equipment from the Smart accessory pack.

The SUV pack comes with front skid plates, rear trunk cladding, door scuttles and bodyside cladding. The Essential pack adds Car cover, car mat, mud flap and bumper corner protector. Then there is the Attractive pack that gets you front grille chrome liner, front bumper chrome, DRL chrome, front grille chrome garnish, window frame kit, chrome on the outside rearview mirror, garnish on C-pillar and chrome on the tailgate.

Engine and transmission

The Kiger is offered in two petrol engine options. You can get it with a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated which is the same as the Triber or a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. The naturally aspirated engine produces 72 PS of max power and 96 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Then there is the turbocharged engine that produces 100 PS of max power and 160 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed CVT automatic gearbox.

Sibling of Nissan Magnite

Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are based on the same CMF-A platform. Renault Triber also uses the same platform. The engine and transmission options are also shared between the Magnite and the Kiger. However, the Magnite does not get the 5-speed AMT gearbox.
