Snapshot – Yesterday, we brought you a round up of 9 India bound cars from this year’s Paris Motor Show. This leaves us with 6 more cars in the original 15 India-bound cars list from the Paris Motor Show. Today’s Paris 2014 Wrap Up will cover the 6 high end, luxury cars that will arrive into India within the next 18 months.
Mercedes Benz B-Class Hatchback Facelift
The Mercedes Benz B-Class received a facelift recently and the refreshed model was showcased at Paris 2014. The car is expected to make its way into India next year. The current B-Class hatchback is a CBU import and the new model is also expected to retain this import strategy. The large hatchback, known for its versatility, gains a cosmetic makeover on the outside and a few additional features on the inside. The front wheel driven models are unchanged mechanically, while the European market gets an optional 4MATIC all wheel drive system. Expect the facelifted B-Class hatchback’s prices to remain true to the current-model’s pricing.
2015 BMW X6 Luxury Crossover
The second generation BMW X6 luxury crossover, which was unveiled earlier this year, was also showcased at Paris 2014. The luxury crossover, whose unique design differentiates it from every other crossover in the market, gets a big infusion of aluminium to keep weight low. While maintaining its distinct silhouette, the X6 gets revised front and rear ends. The crossover will be imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU) given its low volumes potential. The 3 liter, inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine will be retained, along with the 8 speed automatic gearbox. This car will be launched in India sometime during the middle of next year.
Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV
The 2015 Discovery Sport SUV is Land Rover’s Freelander2 replacement. Considering how prolific a seller the Freelander2 was, the Discovery Sport has large boots to fill. The Discovery Sport SUV uses a modified platform of the Range Rover Freelander2 and the Evoque, and is longer than the outgoing model. The additional length has allowed designers at Land Rover to squeeze in two extra seats into the Discovery Sport, thus making the SUV a 7 seater. Other changes include revisions to the suspension, additional equipment on the inside and new safety features. The Discovery Sport SUV will arrive into India as a CKD unit. A late 2015 launch is on the cards.
Jaguar XE Luxury Sedan
Although the Jaguar XE sedan will be launched in India only in 2016, international markets will get the car much sooner. The luxury car was displayed at Paris 2014, and will arrive into India through the CKD assembly route. Jaguar is expected to price the XE close to the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes Benz C-Class models. India is likely to get both the regular, turbo petrol and turbo diesel engined variants of the XE, and the high performance, hopped up S variant. The XE is a car that Jaguar has developed with big global sales in mind. In line with that, the car could turn out to be a hot seller for Jaguar in India as well.
Audi A6 Sedan Facelift
The Audi A6 Sedan Facelift is India bound and the car is expected to land here next year. The 2015 A6 is a minor facelift with the looks of the front and the rear of the car getting a touch up. The big feature change on the car is the addition of the Matrix LED headlamps. The interiors of the luxury sedan also get a slight once over with minor detailing changes on the equipment. The turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines of the car receive boosted fuel efficiency and lower tail pipe emission ratings. For India, the car is imported as a CKD kit and is assembled at Audi’s Aurangabad assembly facility. The same process will continue with the facelifted model.
2015 Volvo XC90 SUV
The all-new, second generation XC90 luxury SUV is Volvo’s first vehicle to use the Scalable Platform Architecture. The XC90 is due for an Indian debut sometime next year, when the SUV replaces the first generation model. Like all Volvo cars sold in India, the XC90 will be imported through the completely built unit (CBU) route. Armed with trick safety technology, new injection technologies for its diesel engines, completely revised looks and brand new interiors, the 2015 XC90 will be the new flagship SUV in Volvo’s range. The 2015 XC90 is expected to be pricier than the outgoing model due to the raft of safety and creature comfort additions.
