Indian car market has grown tremendously over the years. Many international car brands look at India as a potential market and are entering the country. One such manufacturer who plans to enter our market next year is Citroen. It comes under PSA groupe and it looks like Citroen is not the only French brand that will be coming to Indian soil. Recently a premium hatchback from the brand Peugeot was spotted testing on our roads. The premium hatchback caught testing is the Peugeot 208 which is expected to compete with the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz. The spy pictures of this premium hatchback are now available on the internet.
The images have been shared by EAPMagIndia on their Instagram page. The image shows a heavily camouflaged premium hatchback parked on the side of a road. The car has been completely covered and only the headlamp and tail lamps can be seen clearly. Looking at the pictures it is clear that, this is not the latest version of the hatchback. The hatchback belongs to a generation older than the one available in the international markets.
The new gen version has a much more sharper look to it. The one spotted here gets an imposing front grille with swept back headlamps with projector type lights in it. The signature Peugeot logo is placed on the bonnet and even that has been covered. The split front grille has chrome inserts in it and the fog lamps are placed on the bumper itself.

Coming to the side profile, Peugeot 208 has large glass areas and that leaves an impression that it is a big car. The lines are all smooth and the wheels are still rims. The tail light are also visible in the images. It looks like the tai light is a combination of both LED and halogen bulbs. The hatchback has smooth lines all over the place and looks quite elegant.
On the inside, the hatchback is expected to get an all-black interior with brushed aluminium like inserts at places. There will be a touchscreen infotainment screen, climate control AC, 3-spoke steering wheels with control mounted on it, power windows and it is quite possible that the 208 might come with a sunroof as well.
Some years ago, the manufacturer had registered a bunch 208 hatchbacks in Pune and they were the same version as seen in the spy pictures. PSA groupe in collaboration with CK Birla group will be entering Indian market next year. Citroen’s C5 Aircross SUV will be the first ever product to be launched in India. Peugeot is also a part of PSA groupe and they might be thinking of expanding their operations in India after looking at the response for Citroen.
It is available with a variety of engine options internationally. In India, it is expected to get a 1.0 litre petrol and 1.2 litre petrol units generating 68 Bhp and 82 Bhp. There will be a diesel engine option as well. Diesel version is expected to be powered by a 1.4 litre unit generating 67 hp. The engines would be made BS6 compliant and there is possibility that these engines will be tuned to generate a bit more power. As of now, there is no information available regarding the launch of Peugeot in India. We might see Peugeot entering our market probably by 2022.
