French Automaker Peugeot will launch their first product in the Indian market in 2020. According to ETAuto, their first launch will be a hatchback to take on the Maruti Suzuki Swift in the market. The upcoming car has been codenamed as SC21.

The French manufacturer is planning to sign a contract for about 4 lakh units with the suppliers. Peugeot will utilise the Chennai based plant of Hindustan Motors to produce the vehicles in India. About 1 lakh units of the vehicle will roll out from the facility. Other parts will go to other countries like Brazil and South Africa.
The car will be launched in the segment, which is the second fastest growing segment in India, after the SUV segment. As the buying capacity of the customers is increasing, more people are looking upgrade to bigger cars or buy a bigger car instead of entry-level vehicles as their first car.
Earlier, it was revealed that Peugeot is planning to launch four new cars that will rival the Swift, Baleno, Creta and Tucson in the market. The first one to arrive in the market will be the Swift rival.
Currently, Peugeot has the 208 in the line-up which is a direct competitor of the Swift. The hatchback has been caught testing numerous times on Indian roads. The five-door hatchback will compete against sub 4-metre hatchbacks like Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 in the market. The Peugeot 208 made its global debut in 2012 and the car spotted testing in India is a facelift version of that vehicle. The car measures 3,962mm, which is sub 4-metre and is little larger than the Maruti Swift.
We do not know if Peugeot will do changes to the Indian specific car of the 208 or will bring an all-new car yet.
