Royal families in India are renowned for their lavish lifestyles. Most of these families own an extensive number of premium or luxury cars in their garages. One of the youngest members of the Travancore Royal Family, Prince Adithya Varma, recently purchased an Audi A4 luxury sedan. What makes this car special is that it is the first-ever Audi car to be acquired by the royal family. Images of Prince Adithya Varma taking delivery of the brand-new Audi A4 have already surfaced online.
There are even videos available online that share details about the newly acquired car. This Audi A4 sedan is from the current generation and comes in a white shade. In an interview with a YouTube channel, the prince mentioned that the newly purchased car is actually owned by his company, not him personally. The car features a royal family logo placed below the registration plate, which they have special permission to use on their vehicle.
In the video, the prince can be heard stating that this is the first Audi car that the royal family has ever purchased. Prior to this, the royal family exclusively had cars from Mercedes-Benz. The decision to buy the Audi A4 was not made by Adithya Varma; it was determined by the company’s directors. While it might sound a bit unusual, they were seeking a car that offered good value for money. The price of the Audi A4 in India now starts at Rs 41 lakh and goes up to Rs 51 lakh, ex-showroom. Many of the cars they were considering exceeded their budget, making the Audi A4 the only one that met their criteria. Its rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series, and Volvo S60 were considerably more expensive, making the Audi A4 the clear choice.

Prince Adithya Varma is an auto enthusiast who takes care of most vehicles that were once owned by the royal family. For his daily commutes, Adithya Varma drives a Maruti Celerio and also owns a Volkswagen Beetle. He has a strong fondness for off-roading and possesses a Mitsubishi Pajero for this purpose. Returning to the Audi A4, it comes equipped with a virtual cockpit, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an Audi sound system, LED headlamps and tail lamps, an electric sunroof, various driving modes, leatherette seats, ambient lighting, electrically adjustable front seats, front and rear parking sensors, a rear parking camera, multi-zone climate control, and more.
Powering the Audi A4 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine. The option of a diesel engine is no longer available. This petrol engine generates 190 Ps and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox as standard, and the power is sent to the front wheels only. The Audi A4 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds (claimed), with a top speed of 241 kmph.
Last year, a 1955 model Mercedes-Benz 180 T vintage luxury sedan that was once used by the late Sree Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the former Maharaja of the erstwhile Kingdom of Travancore, was gifted to the chairman of the Lulu group, M A Yusuff Ali. The vintage car was initially purchased by the royal family in 1950 for just Rs 12,000.
