While Datsun might have used the 2016 Auto Expo to display the larger Go-Cross crossover concept, the redi-GO isn’t too far away from reaching the dealerships. An official announcement regarding the compact hatchback is yet to be made, but another appearance by the car in an almost production-ready version is reassuring. The redi-GO has not been shown in the production avatar, and the test mule – spotted by Team-BHP; camouflaged – does little to give away the design details. So while checking out the photos, let us also recapitulate whatever we know about the vehicle.
First showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, the redi-GO shares its platform – called CMF-A – with the very successful Renault Kwid. In terms of powertrain, while it might be obvious to think the redi-GO uses the same engine as the Kwid – a 799 cc engine which makes 54 PS – but a recent report by Economic Times suggested that Datsun might stick to the larger 1.2-liter unit.
In terms of design, don’t expect the redi-GO to be a copy of the Kwid. As presented with the concept, it will have distinct Datsun styling features.
