The production-spec Ford Ka+ sedan has been officially revealed in Brazil to coincide with the commencement of the the 2014 FIFA Football World Cup. The Ka+ sedan was first showcased in India, in sub-4 meter guise, at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Known as the Figo compact sedan, the Ka+ is likely to arrive into India next year, as Ford’s maiden sub-4 meter sedan tailored specifically for the Indian car market.
In Brazil though, the car will measure over 4 meters in length. From the official image of the Ka+ sedan for Brazil, it is easy to make out that the car will feature a slightly different profile starting from the C-Pillar as well as a more capacious boot. On the India-spec model, the boot will assume a stubbier form factor, along with what could be a less bulbous rear end to confirm to the sub-4 meter length requirement.
While their lengths will differ, the wheelbases of the Brazil-spec and India-spec 2015 Ka+/Figo sedan are likely to be similar. In India, Ford’s upcoming Sanand manufacturing facility in Gujarat, will produce the 2015 Figo based Ka+ compact sedan. The car will go on sale in Brazil later this year, following the launch of the Ka (2015 Figo) hatchback, with which it shares its underpinnings and engine options.
Considering the fact that the 2015 Figo/Ka hatchback is powered by a 1 liter-3 cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that is based on the 1 liter EcoBoost motor, the same unit is likely to be used on the Ka+/Figo sedan as well. This engine outputs 85 Bhp of peak power and 105 Nm of peak torque and comes mates to a five speed manual gearbox as standard.
Top-end variants are likely to get the 1.5 liter-4 cylinder Ti-VCT naturally aspirated motor. Both engines will be Flex-Fuel (petrol + ethanol mix) fuel compliant in Brazil. For India, the 1 liter petrol engine and a 1.5 liter TDCI turbo diesel engine, which does duty on the likes of the new Fiesta and the EcoBoost, are likely to make the cut into the engine bays of the 2015 Figo hatchback and compact sedan models.
