Production-spec Renault Kiger sub-4 meter compact SUV spied ahead of launch

Renault Kiger which is supposed to launch in early-2021 has been spied again recently being tested on our Indian roads. This time the new compact-SUV is caught on a video by Power Stroke PS and the video has been uploaded on their YouTube channel. From the new spy shots, we can get some more details about how the Kiger compact-SUV will look like.

It has been a month since Renault showcased the Kiger Concept to us. The market of compact-SUVs is strong and Renault knows this. Every manufacturer is currently has a compact-SUV in its portfolio. Recently, Nissan launched the Magnite who is a sister brand to Renault. The Magnite and the Kiger will share quite a few components. It will be underpinned by the CMF-A+ platform which also underpinned the Renault Triber and the Nissan Magnite.

The Kiger will also get the same set of 1.0-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the Nissan Magnite. This will help in keeping the costs down so that the car can be placed aggressively in the market. The Magnite attracted a lot of people by its starting price of just Rs. 4.99 lakhs ex-showroom and the manufacturer also claimed that the Magnite comes with lowest-in-class maintenance cost. Renault will also be pricing the Kiger, near the Magnite. However, it will cost a bit more money than Magnite.

From the spy shots, we can see that the body shape of the Kiger looks like a beefed-up version of the Renault Kwid. This is a good thing because the Kwid was able to gather a lot of sales based on its SUV inspired looks. We can see the split headlamp design where the LED Daytime Running Lamp is placed above with the grille. There are the LED projectors placed in the lower half of the bumper. We assume that there would be one for high beam, one for low beam and one serving as a fog lamp. The front of the production-spec Kiger does resemble the Kiger Concept a lot which is a good thing. We can see that the vehicle is covered with camouflage. However, from some parts the camouflage sticker has started to peel off, giving us first glance to the paint scheme. We can see the blue paint which does resemble a lot to the colour that we saw on the Kiger Concept. So, we can assume that the production-spec Kiger will be available in the same blue shade as the Kiger Concept. The side profile a set of roof-rails and dual-tone alloy wheels. We can see that the rear window line rakes a very steep angle. It will get C-shaped LED tail lamps, a lot of plastic cladding for a rugged look.

Powering the Renault Kiger will be a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The naturally aspirated petrol engine will produce 72 PS of max power and 96Nm of peak torque. The engine will only be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol will produce a max power of 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox. Renault Kiger will go against Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV500 and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
