The father of the 17-year-old who crashed the car under the influence of alcohol has been identified as Vishal Agarwal, owner of Bramha Realty and Infrastructure. After the incident, Vishal had reportedly gone missing. Along with the father, the owners of the bars where the minor was served alcohol have also been arrested.

A video of the accident has also surfaced online. This happened in the early hours of Sunday, 19th May 2024. In the video captured by the CCTV camera installed on the road, we can see the same Porsche car passing through the narrow road at a very high speed. The car that got involved in the accident is probably a Porsche Taycan electric 4-door sports car.

The car which caused the accident was plying on the roads of Pune without a registration number plate. The owner of the car had not paid the registration fee of the car to the RTO.

Vishal Agarwal

It is said that the car was driven at a speed of 200 kmph on the narrow road. The case has now been transferred to Pune Police’s Crime Branch division. Pune Police, while awaiting a decision from the sessions court, have charged Vishal Agarwal under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. These sections pertain to willful neglect of a child and providing intoxicating substances to a minor, respectively.

Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, who were killed in this tragic crash, were working as IT professionals. Both these youngsters were returning to their place from a get-together at around 2:15 am when the Porsche crashed behind their bike. Both of them died on the spot. The minor who was driving the Porsche was actually celebrating after his 12th class results came out.

The kid was arrested by the cops, and as he was an underage driver, the Juvenile Justice Board granted him bail. All this happened just 15 hours after his detention. The board granted bail with several conditions like the accused should work with the Yerawada traffic police for 15 days. Additionally, the accused must write an essay on the accident. Apart from this, the accused must also receive treatment from a doctor to help him quit drinking. The accused is also required to undergo psychiatric counseling and submit a related report.

The lenient approach by the board has been widely criticized online. Pune Police have also filed an application where they have requested the sessions court to try the juvenile as an adult. Commissioner of Police Mr. Kumar said, “We have taken yesterday’s incident seriously. We have taken action under section 304 of IPC, which is a non-bailable section as it was a heinous crime.”

The legal age of drinking in Maharashtra is 25. The owners of the pub were also arrested for their role in providing alcohol to the minor, which led to this tragic accident.
