Punjab CM & MLAs to get multi-crore Toyota Land Cruisers, Innova Crystas & Fortuners

The transport department of Punjab has revealed that the government of that state has approved the purchase of over 400 swanky new cars for use by the chief minister, ministers, MLAs and other officials. These vehicles include multi-crore Toyota Land Cruiser and Fortuner luxury SUVs, and Innova Crysta MPVs.

Other new vehicles to be purchased for use by officials of the Punjab government will include Mahindra Scorpios and Maruti Dzire/Honda Amaze/Ertiga cars.

The Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh will replace the bullet-proof Mitsubishi Montero SUVs that he currently uses with bullet-proof Toyota Land Cruisers. The bullet-proof Toyota Land Cruisers are likely to cost more than double that of the regular versions, which are already very expensive, at an on-road price of about Rs. 1.6 crores. Not one, not two but 16 new Toyota Land Cruisers will be bought, and two units will be bullet-proof units.

The Land Cruiser is Toyota’s flagship luxury SUV, and is powered by a massive 4.5 liter V8 turbocharged diesel engine that puts out 262 Bhp of peak power and 650 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed automatic gearbox and a full time four wheel drive layout are standard. The SUV is a 7 seater.

The Toyota Fortuner is India’s best selling luxury SUV, and is available with 2.7 liter petrol and 2.8 liter turbocharged diesel engine options. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are available, and so are rear wheel drive and four wheel drive layouts. The SUV is a 7 seater, and prices start from Rs. 27.23 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

The Toyota Innova, another best selling vehicle from the Japanese brand, is a supremely comfortable MPV. It’s sold with 2.7 liter petrol, and 2.4 and 2.8 liter turbocharged diesel engine options. Like the Fortuner, the Toyota Innova Crysta gets manual and automatic gearboxes and a 7 seat layout. A rear wheel drive layout is standard, and prices start from Rs. 14.63 lakhs.

17 ministers of the Punjab government will upgrade from the Toyota Camry to the Toyota Fortuner. 97 other MLAs will upgrade from the Toyota Innova from the Innova Crysta. 13 new Mahindra Scorpios will be purchased for use by Punjab government officials.
