Question of the day: Hyundai verna 1.4 or Fiat Linea Mulitjet?

Shivraj Naik wants the community to help him to decide whether he should buy the Hyundai Fluidic Verna 1.4 CRDI or the upcoming 2012 Fiat Linea 1.3 MJD.

Shivraj is looking primarily for driving pleasure and a pliant ride. In terms of comfort the Linea’s suspension is soft and provides a more comfortable ride than the Verna. In terms of handling too the Linea is ahead of the Verna as the Linea’s steering gives better feedback and is more pleasurable to drive.

Question of the day: Hyundai verna 1.4 or Fiat Linea Mulitjet?

The top of the line Fiat Linea Emotion Multijet Pk has a claimed mileage of 20 kmpl and costs Rs. 8.80 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. The Linea has a 1,248 cc engine that produces 86 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm and 209 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.

The Hyundai Fluidic Verna 1.4 CRDi has a better mileage figure of 23 kmpl and costs Rs. 8.10 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, so it the more affordable option. It has a 1,396 cc engine that produces 89 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque at 1750-2750 rpm.

However if Shivraj wants to opt for the Verna the top trim manual Hyundai Fluidic Verna 1.6 CRDi SX (O) would be a better bet. It has a claimed mileage of 22 kmpl and costs Rs. 10.20 lakh ex-showroom Delhi which makes the Linea substantially cheaper. What car would you suggest for Shivraj?
