Question of the day: Maruti Suzuki Swift ZDI or Fiat Punto 90hp?

Suraj Gaikwad wants the community to help him decide whether he should go for the Maruti Suzuki Swift ZDI or the Fiat Punto 90hp. Now while the Maruti Suzuki Swift is a very popular car it is also in high demand, asa result of which its waiting periods are painfully long. The Punto on the other hand is available off the shelf in most cities.

The Punto has a 1,248 cc engine that produces 90 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm and 213 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The Swift’s .3 litre engine too makes a decent 74 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm but is no match for the Punto. In terms of performance the Punto is obviously a more competent vehicle on paper. However when you actually take to the roads both the cars perform more or less the same, with the Swift being more driver friendly and easy to maneuver.

The Maruti Swift ZDI costs Rs. 6.48 lakh in Delhi while the Fiat Grande Punto 90 HP Emotion Pk is priced at Rs. 6.85 lakh. If Suraj is on a tight budget the Swift is the more attractive option but otherwise the Punto makes more sense for a buyer who wants to purchase a car immediately. The Punto is also more elegant looking than the Swift, which  may have improved compared to the older model remains too dull  a car when pit against the Punto’s beautiful Italian design.
