Question of the day: Skoda Laura, Toyota Corolla Altis or Renault Fluence?

Rahul asked the community to help him decide which diesel sedan he should buy in the price range of Rs.12 lakh-  Rs.16 lakh.

He has narrowed down his choices to the Skoda Laura, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Renault Fluence. Now the base Skoda Laura Ambition 2.0 TDI CR MT costs Rs. 14.07 lakh and has a claimed mileage figure of 20 kmpl. It has a 1968 cc engine that makes 110 bhp of power @ 4200 rpm and 250 Nm of torque @ 1500-2500 rpm.

The Corolla Altis D-4D J variant costs Rs. 11.76 lakh which makes it cheaper than the Laura but it has a 1364 cc engine that makes only 87 Bhp of power. So If its a car Rahul wants to drive around town himself the Altis is not a great pick.

The Renault Fluence is a relatively new entrant in this segment and will give Rahul exclusivity but Renault doesn’t really have a wise service network! The base Fluence comes in at Rs. 12.99 lakh which makes it cheaper than the Laura but a tad above the Altis in terms of price.  It has a 1461 cc diesel engine that makes 105 bhp of power and 240 Nm of torque.
