The Indian car market is booming and manufacturers from around the world are bringing in a host of new vehicles.While a quarter of 2017 has already passed by, there are a few really radical launches lined up for later this year. Here are 10 of them!
TaMo RaceMo
Why is it radical? The RaceMo will become the cheapest sports car in India when launched. The home-grown product is developed in-house by Tata and is truly radical.
The RaceMo will be the first car that will be based on Tata’s Moflex platform. It features gullwing doors and looks very futuristic. The car is extremely equipped with features like Bi-LED headlamps, rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels at the rear and 17-inch at the front and more. The RaceMo will also become India’s first connected car equipped with the technology developed by Microsoft. The vehicle will get cloud computing connection with analytics, geospatial tech and more.
The RaceMo will draw power from a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that puts out a maximum power of 186 Bhp, and a maximum torque of 210 Nm. It will get a 6-speed AMT. The car is expected to be launched at around Rs. 25 lakh.
Scorpion MK IV
Why is it radical? Scorpion MK IV will be the most extreme off-roading vehicle that will be road legal.
The Scorpion MK is a vehicle developed for extreme off-roading. The highly capable vehicle is also used by the USA Army to reach most extreme locations. The vehicle will be assembled in India and will be homologated so that it can be registered and driven on public roads. The SUV comes with patented suspension system that provides huge articulation and ability to keep all the four wheels on the ground in any situation.
The Scorpion MK IV is powered by two engine versions – 5.7-litre V8 petrol and 3.9-litre diesel engine. This will be the first instance where an off-road buggy will be road legal in India.
Hyundai Ioniq
Why is it radical? Cheapest full-hybrid in India
The Hyundai Ioniq is an all-new car built on the zero-emission platform. Hyundai has confirmed that they will bring the hybrid version of the vehicle in India this year. The full-hybrid sedan is powered by 1.6-litre GDi engine that develops a maximum of 102 Bhp and 147 Nm of torque. There will be an electric motor that will add another 42.4 Bhp and 169.4 Nm of torque. The cars will reach India as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units. This move is expected to keep prices low, at around Rs. 25 lakhs.
Tesla Model 3
Why is it radical? The Model 3 is known as the future of the electric vehicles with an autopilot system.
Elon Musk, chief of Tesla had announced that the Model 3 will be launched in India in 2017. The Model 3 is the most affordable Tesla car after the company tasted huge success with the likes of Model S and Model X. The Model 3 is targeted at the people who want a futuristic car at an affordable price.
Even though the complete details of the vehicle is not known yet, the car will get a range of 344 km on a full charge. The Model 3 will also get Autopilot system similar to the other Tesla cars.
Skoda Octavia vRS
Why is it radical? Affordable high-performance car for the enthusiasts
Skoda Octavia vRS was a popular name among the enthusiasts in India a few years back. The Octavia name did make a comeback in India but not the high-performance vRS. The all-new vRS will enter the Indian market this year. The car gets a new dual LED headlamp set-up, 19-inch wheels and a larger grille.
There are two engine options in the international market. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 230 Bhp – 350 Nm while the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine produces 184 Bhp – 380 Nm.
