The biggest political party in the opposition in Parliament, Indian National Congress, is conducting a unique programme called ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. In this programme, the congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be joined by the state representatives of the Indian National Congress in the 3570 km campaign from Kanyakumari to Srinagar.

While Rahul Gandhi will be covering the entire distance on his feet, accompanied by state representatives and ‘Atithi Yatris’ at times, the party has made arrangements for the night-stay at temporary campsites, wherever the participants will be stopping. For these stays, the party has arranged 60 large containers mounted on trucks, which will be stationed wherever the programme will take a halt.

These 60 containers are accommodating 230-250 ‘Padyatris’ and are specially made offering basic arrangements for night shelters. All these containers come equipped with beds and mattresses. While some containers come equipped with only one bed, some have up to 12 beds. There are also two-bed and four-bed containers. Every day, these containers move to a new site or town where the rally heads.

Electrified containers

Apart from the provision of beds, these containers also come equipped with fans and power outlets to charge devices. However, no other sources of entertainment, like television or screens, are provided inside these containers. Unlike motorhomes, these containers also miss out on kitchens and refrigerators. The arrangement of sleeping beds in the containers having multiple beds is done like in a railway sleeper compartment, in a double-storey fashion. Also, the containers don’t come equipped with air conditioners, but only fans and ventilation windows.

Some of these containers come equipped with attached toilets and washrooms. However, for those containers which do not have them, there is a separate toilet container. One of these containers also has a dining hall for meal times for all the participants of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. All these containers come painted with slogans in different languages since the rally will be passing from south to north across various states speaking different languages.

‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ is an attempt by Indian National Congress to connect with people across states on the grass-root level. The 3570km rally will be covered on feet by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the party members through 12 states and two union territories. The rally started on 8th September at Kanyakumari and will continue for 150 days. The final stop of the rally is at Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Fake pictures circulated

Just like any other political campaign, a lot of fake news and posts have been made against this rally as well. Pictures of expensive motorhomes were shared online to show how luxuriously the cabins of these trucks really are. However, India Today has done a ground report to fact-check these claims and bring the real picture of the rally and the container trucks.
