Range Rover Sport SVR SUV with aerodynamics of a brick outclasses a Ferrari 458 Italia
Ferrari 458 Italia is definitely among the best we’ve seen from the Maranello-based supercar marque. However, we were left scratching our heads on getting to know the new Range Rover Sport SVR has outclassed the Ferrari on the hill-climb of China’s Tianmen Mountain road. This mountain road, which is located in the Chinese Hunan Province, is an 11.3 kilometre long stretch that consists of as many as 99 corners. Watch the video below.
The new Range Rover Sport SVR has set a lap record of 9 minutes and 51 seconds, with an average speed of 68.8 km/h. This simply shatters the earlier best time of 10 minutes 31 seconds by a Ferrari 458 Italia. Thanks to the recent set of updates the latest iteration of the Range Rover Sport SVR has got sharper and more powerful, which are the very reasons for this unbelievable feat. The updated version of this Rangie is powered by a high-strung 5.0-litre V8 that outputs 557.8 bhp (up by 18.77 bhp). On the other hand, the Ferrari 458 Italia offers 561.88 bhp. It even enjoys a weight advantage over this SUV. However, we need to mention here that piloting the new SVR on this record-breaking run was Formula E racer, and Panasonic Jaguar Racing driver, Ho-Pin Tung. The lap-record by Ferrari was set by Fabio Barone Mihaela, the president of the Italian car maker’s fan club.
Ho-Pin Tung is the same stuntman who was seen behind the wheel of a Land Rover P400e plug-in hybrid that climbed the 999 steps to Heaven’s Gate at the summit of this Tianmen Mountain road. Of course, the new SVR has been able to create a new record due to its skilled driver. However, one still can’t overlook the power and weight advantages that the 458 Italia enjoys over the SVR. Really, gives me the chills to see the large-size SUV offering a Physics-defying performance on the challenging mountain road.
