The Mahindra Thar is one of the most capable off-roading vehicles currently on sale in India. While many prefer the classic old school looks of the Thar, there are quite a few owners who like to tweak and modify their Thar’s to personalise it to match their sense of style. Now DC Design, which is perhaps the best-known aftermarket design house in the country has enhanced the looks of the Thar in a modified version of the offroader. Called Ranger, this Thar has been modified by DC NorthEast.
The Thar Ranger gets a host of upgrades that enhance its style quotient and also help improve the vehicle’s safety. All the modifications on the DC NorthEast Thar Ranger cost a total of Rs 11,47,500 on top of the regular Mahindra Thar which has to be provided by the customer. DC NorthEast also offers mechanical upgrades at an extra cost, which many customers will find to be a good fit with their Rangers.
Let’s start with the changes on the outside. Up front, the regular headlamps have been replaced by projector units with LED daytime running lights.
The fenders feature lining for extra protection everytime you take your Thar Ranger mud-plugging. There are also LED lights on either side of the windscreen. The electrically operated ORVMs are brand new and feature integrated turn signals. The ORVMs also features an auto fold function which folds the mirrors in when the Thar is locked.
Also seen on the side are the large side rear windows which are tinted and can be opened and closed using rollers. The large rear side windows are and are part of the glass top package that also includes a manually operated pop-up sunroof for the front passengers and a panoramic sunroof for those at the rear. The rear windscreen gets a wiper and washer as well. DC will also paint the Thar Ranger to the colour you want which also includes the modified fenders as well.
Step inside the Thar and you’ll be greeted by leather on the upper section of the dashboard. The fabric seats feature leather upholstery for a more upmarket look and feel. Adding to the premium look of the interiors of the Thar Ranger are the touchscreen controls for the air conditioning system, the illuminated co-passenger vanity mirror and the concealed mood lighting on the roof. The Thar Ranger also gets a Single-din Audio system with 4 speakers as standard along with USB, AUX, and Radio connectivity. The premium speaker package adds Bluetooth connectivity and a ported subwoofer and an amp to the mix.
The Thar Ranger also gets a host of safety features including seatbelts for the rear bench seats, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a reminder system for the driver and front passenger’s seatbelts. Also present are parking sensors with a backup camera, a fire extinguisher, power windows, central locking with an additional anti-theft key lock and a power-lift hood.
The Thar Ranger also comes with a host of additional features which help enhance the performance of the off-roader, which can be added to the SUV by paying extra. Customers can add 17-inch alloy wheels to the Thar Ranger for an extra Rs 37,000 which can be fitted with 265 65R 17 tyres for an additional Rs 66,000.
DC Northeast also offers rear suspension upgrade to a Monoleaf composite H-matic setup for Rs 44,000 and customers can also upgrade all four nitro dampers for Rs 19,500. For those looking for a bit more bite from the brakes at the rear and additional Rs 81,000 will get your rear brakes upgraded to discs with solid rotors.
All in all, with the extra options dialled in the Thar Ranger costs a whopping Rs 14.49 lakhs (excluding the price of the Thar).
