Renault Captur gets a MASSIVE price cut: Nissan Kicks effect?

Renault India has slashed prices of the Captur SUV weeks ahead of the Nissan Kicks’ launch. The Renault Captur is now cheaper by a whopping 81,000 rupees. However, the price cut has been effected mainly on the higher variants of the SUV while the lower variants see no price change. Notably, the Renault Captur and the upcoming Nissan Kicks SUVs share the same B-Zero platform. The engines and gearboxes are also similar on both cars.

Meanwhile, here is the exact quantum of price cuts on the Renault Captur’s top-end variants,

  • Rxt Petrol Dual Tone – Price cut from Rs 11.87 Lakh to Rs 11.46 Lakh – Rs 41000 Price Reduction
  • Rxt Diesel Dual Tone – Price cut from Rs 13.27 Lakh to Rs 12.67 Lakh – Rs 60000 Price Reduction.
  • Pristine Diesel – Price cut from Rs 14.06 Lakh to Rs 13.25 Lakh – Rs 81000 Price Reduction

After the price cut, the petrol variants of the Renault Captur are now priced between Rs. 9.99 lakhs and Rs. 11.46 lakhs while the diesel variants are priced between Rs. 10.99 lakhs and Rs. 13.25 lakhs. It’ll be interesting to see  at what price the Nissan Kicks is launched. The launch is slated for January 22nd and Nissan dealers have already begun accepting bookings for the new SUV.

The Renault Captur is a five seat compact SUV that sits above the Duster in terms of price and positioning. The SUV  is offered with 2 engines – a 1.5 liter petrol with 104 Bhp-140 Nm, and a 1.5 liter turbocharged diesel with 108  Bhp 240 Nm. Both engines get manual gearboxes and there is no automatic gearbox on offer even as an option. All  variants of the SUV are front wheel driven.

Right from launch, the Renault Captur has been a poor seller, and Renault dealers has been stuck with leftover  inventory. Inventory levels started piling up from the end of 2017, when the Captur was first launched, prompting  dealers to offer massive discounts on the previous year’s stock. This scenario is repeating in 2019 as well, with  Renault dealers now offering massive discounts on the 2018 stock of the Captur.

2018 model year Capturs are being sold at a discount of Rs. 1.25 lakhs, which is split into a Rs. 60,000 cash  discount, a Rs. 60,000 exchange bonus and a Rs. 5,000 corporate discount. This makes the Renault Captur cheaper than  the country’s best selling compact SUV – the Hyundai Creta. People wanting a great deal could take a look at the  discounted version of the 2018 Renault Captur.

The Renault Captur has a few strengths. It’s built well, and has fresh looks, which will turn heads on the street. It  also has terrific ride quality that makes short work of bad roads. For those seeking comfort and fresh looks, the  discounted version of the Captur may just make a lot of sense.

Nissan Kicks Studio Shot 1

Coming to another similar SUV just about to launch – the Nissan Kicks – the compact SUV will offer more than the Captur in terms of features. From 6 airbags to a 360 degree camera, the Kicks will be the most loaded SUV that Nissan has ever launched in India.
