Renault Duster gets BIG price cut; Now nearly 1.35 lakhs cheaper than Hyundai Creta SUV

Citing higher localization levels, Renault India has cut prices of the Duster compact SUV. The Duster now starts from Rs. 7.55 lakhs, which makes it Rs. 1.35 lakhs cheaper than the segment’s best seller – the Hyundai Creta compact SUV. This price drop for the Duster is across variants, right from the RxE Petrol base-model to the top-end 110 PS Diesel AWD model. While the base variant sees a price cut of nearly Rs. 56,000, the top-end AWD model gets a much larger price cut of Rs. 1 lakh. The Duster range now starts at Rs. 7.95 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, going up to Rs. 12.79 lakhs.

Sumit Sawhney, the CEO of Renault India has said the following about the latest price cut for the Duster,

Renault had one of the highest localization done on KWID with 98% at the time of launch. We are happy to pass on the benefits to the new Duster customers making it more attractive across the range enabled by our aggressive  localisation strategy on Duster as well.

A big reason why Renault has dropped prices of the Duster may have to do with the Captur’s poor sales. Introduced  late last year, the Captur is yet to take off in a big way in the Indian market. The new premium crossover, which  starts at nearly Rs. 10 lakhs, is not even selling half as much as the Duster, prompting Renault to course correct. The dropped prices of the Duster is meant to create space between the two models, and differentiate them better.

The Duster is available with two engine options. The petrol engine is a 1.6 liter unit with 104 Bhp-140 Nm, and gets  a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard and a CVT automatic gearbox as an option. It’s front wheel driven. The diesel  Duster gets the 1.5 liter K9K turbocharged engine with 89 Bhp-200 Nm and 108 Bhp-240 Nm outputs. The lower state of tune uses a 5 speed manual while the higher state of tune gets 6 speed manual and AMT options. The Duster Diesel with the 108 Bhp engine also gets an all wheel drive system on the manual gearbox trim.
