Renault India has awarded a Kiger compact SUV to ace woman boxer, Mary Kom who is a 6-time world champion and also India’s flag-bearer at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The keys of the Kiger were presented to Mary by Venkatram Mamillapalle, country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations.
Renault India has also presented a Kiger to Olympic medal winner, Mirabai Chanu. Other Olympians like Lovlina Borgohain, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Bajrang Punia also got a Kiger that was awarded by Renault as a token of appreciation.
Compact SUVs are selling like hot cakes in our country and Kiger is currently one of the most affordable compact SUVs in the Indian market. This is one of the unique selling points for Renault. It has been priced very competitively and has been designed to look muscular with its compact dimensions.

The main market for the Kiger is the people who wanted to buy a compact SUV but the compact SUVs were out of their budget. This is where Kiger comes in. It is priced like a hatchback or a premium hatchback but offers the road presence and looks of a compact SUV.
Kiger is smaller than its rivals but it is also a lot more affordable. The smaller size also means that it is easy to manoeuvre and park in tight parking spaces. It is also a lot easier to drive than the rivals in bumper to bumper traffic because of its small size.
Prices
Kiger’s base variant is priced at Rs. Rs. 5.64 lakhs ex-showroom and the top-end variant costs Rs. 10.09 lakhs ex-showroom. The Kiger is offered in five variants, namely RXE, RXL, RXT, RXT (O), and RXZ. It competes in one of the toughest segments in which competitors keep adding, removing features, introduce new variants and keep changing prices. All of this is done so that their compact SUV stays competitive in the market.
Competitors
The Kiger locks its horns against other compact SUVs like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford Ecosport, Kia Sonet, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Nissan Magnite.
Accessory Packs
You can get the Kiger with various accessory packs. So, if you think that you want a feature but is not offered in the variants but is available in the accessory pack then you can just opt for the accessory pack. This helps in keeping the costs low for the compact SUV. There are five accessory packs available with the Kiger. There is Smart, Smart Plus, SUV, Attractive and Essential.
Engine and gearbox
The Kiger is offered in two engine options. Both are 1.0-litre three cylinders but one is naturally aspirated while the other one is turbocharged. The naturally aspirated engine puts out a modest 72 PS of max power and 96 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The turbocharged engine produces 100 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 160 Nm. You can get it with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox.
