Renault India today launched their first SUV in the Indian market, the Koleos. This is the latest variant of the Koleos which is also sold in international markets. Here’s a quick look at the SUV.
Price and variants
The Koleos comes to us at a price of Rs. 22.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It has been launched in a single 4×4 variant as of now. But Renault may have to launch a two wheel drive variant if they wish to gain significant sales. The present model of the Koleos comes in three colors; white pearl, ultra silver and black metallic.
Engine and performance
The Koleos has a 2-litre, common-rail diesel engine with turbo that belts out 148 bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of torque. The top speed of the SUV is 180 kmph (claimed) and it can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a mere 12.3 seconds. The claimed mileage of the Koleos is 13.7 kmpl.
The Koleos comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. There are three modes for the 4×4 system: 4WD lock, 2WD lock or auto 4WD lock. In the auto 4WD lock mode, the intelligent 4×4 system will prevent the wheels from locking when driving through slippery road conditions.
One paper the car sounds capable but how it behaves on the road and off it can only be ascertained after a full-fledged test drive.
Exterior: The Koleos is a good looking vehicle by most standards. Chunky 17 inch alloys, angular headlamps and generous but wise use of chrome give the SUV a dominating stance. The Koleos sports a unique looking tail lamp cluster; it sports roof rails, rear bumper reflectors and rear under body protection.
Interior: One the inside the Koleos has seating space for five. It comes with beige coloured, leather upholstery. The front seats provide good lumbar and thigh support. The rear seats can also be folded 60:40 to expand the SUVs 450 litre of storage space. The Koleos also has a six way electrically adjustable driver seat, front arm rest with storage box & cup holder among other convenient features.
