Renault Kwid based SUV (Brezza rival) and premium hatchback (Swift rival) to be launched in India

Renault India’s grand success in the Indian market can be anchored to two vehicles, the Renault Duster and then the introduction of the Renault Kwid. According to a report, the French manufacturer will pour in another $400 million to develop a new global vehicle, similar to the Kwid.

The car is being developed at the Renault-Nissan Technical Centre in Chennai and will be less than 4-meter in size. The upcoming compact SUV will be based on the same CMF-A platform of Kwid but will be modified to accommodate the larger SUV body on it. Currently, Renault only offers three products in India – Kwid, Duster and the Captur. The recent product shuffle has left many gaps that will be filled by the new arrivals.

Renault is also working on a premium hatchback that will take on the likes of Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 in the market. Renault may also showcase the concept version of these upcoming products at the 2018 Auto Expo, which scheduled to happen in February 2018.

We may also see a high-powered version of the Renault Kwid that was showcased as a concept model in 2016 Auto Expo. Apart from that, Renault will launch the facelifted Duster later this year in India.

In 2019, we will see a great inflow of new vehicles due to the enforcement of Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) will be enforced on the vehicles. All the existing models of vehicles will have to be tested for crash safety by October 2019. This will force a lot of vehicles available in the market to be launched in an all-new version or with reinforced structures.

Renault will also launch an all-new Kwid by 2019 and because of the similar reasons, Maruti will also launch the all-new Alto that will heat up the competition by quite a lot.
