Renault showcased the special edition concept models of highly successful Kwid at the Auto Expo 2016. The Kwid Racer and Kwid Climber concept attracted a lot of eyes at the event. Now that the Kwid has gained a strong position in the market, Renault is gearing up to launch the Kwid Climber in India.
The leaked pictures show the production spec Kwid Climber, and it looks quite different from the concept model. The Climber is designed to be rugged and gets many additions for the same. The front bumper of the Kwid Climber now comes with faux skid plate and orange inserts. The fog lamps get black cladding that adds a very fresh look to the SUV-styled Kwid.
The ORVMs are painted in orange colour while the roof rails and the faux skid plate at the front get orange highlights to give a distinctive look to the vehicle. The alloy wheels have been upgraded too. Renaut has added a new blue paint scheme, which is similar to the Kwid Racer seen at the Auto Expo.
Kwid Climber continues with the orange highlights on the inside too. There are traces of orange on the gear lever, centre console and door panels. The seats are black with orange highlights and get Climber monogram stitched on the headrests. Everything else remains the same, including the touch-screen infotainment system.
The Kwid Climber will be powered by the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum of 67 BHP and 91 Nm of torque. The engine will come with 5-speed manual gearbox. Renault will make the Kwid Climber premium by Rs. 35,000-45,000 than the Kwid 1.0 manual variants.
Even though the Kwid is the best selling car of Renault in India, the sales of the SUV-styled hatchback has been weakening since last few months. The new edition of the car will put a fresh lease of life and will attract more footfalls to the showroom. The Kwid Climber is likely to be launched by the end of this month or in the first half of April.
