Renault Kwid Facelift hatchback SPIED testing ahead of launch

The Renault Kwid, which is the most affordable model in the French carmaker’s Indian product portfolio, was launched about three years ago. The Kwid has been on sale with a starting price of Rs 2.67 lakh and rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and Datsun redi-GO. It looks like Renault has already started readying a minor facelift for its entry-level hatchback. Seen below is an image of the upcoming facelift that has been taken in Southern Europe.

From the looks of it, the upcoming Renault Kwid facelift won’t get any comprehensive styling updates. Instead, the rugged and handsome looking car will receive only minor tweaks. The front bumper is likely to be updated along with the housings for the fog lamps. Even the rear bumper will be updated. The side profile is expected to remain largely unchanged. While we are yet to see a spy image of the interior, it doesn’t look like it would receive any substantial upgrades.

The Renault Kwid has been on sale with two engine options – 0.8-litre petrol and 1.0-litre petrol. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard. Additionally, the bigger engine also offers an optional AMT. The 0.8-litre motor outputs 73 bhp and 72 Nm. The 1.0-litre engine produces 67 bhp and 91 Nm. This budget hatchback is based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform. It offers a spacious interior with segment-best boot space of 300-litres. It also offers a decent ride quality.

Currently, the Kwid is Renault’s best-selling car in India. In May 2018, Renault sold more than 5,000 units of the Kwid, which puts it in seventeenth place in the list of top 20 largest selling cars in India. The launch of the facelift, in most probability, will increase the popularity of this little hatchback. While the company is yet to divulge any information on the upcoming facelift, we’re hopeful of a mid-2019 launch.
