The Kwid is the entry-level offering from Renault and has been the best seller for Renault brand in India. The Kwid is available in 0.8L and 1.0L engine options with both manual and AMT transmission. Since its launch the Kwid has been quite popular among people planning to buy small cars. But now, sales of the Renault Kwid is dropping.
Renault only sold 66,815 units in 2018 compared to 92,440 units in 2017. The sales of the Kwid has been coming down for some time now. The major reason behind this could be that since the launch of Kwid, Renault has not given any major updates to the car apart from the minor facelift that came in last year.
Renault is likely to be working on a next generation Kwid that will meet the upcoming safety norms as the current generation lags behind in structural integrity. It is likely to be launched in 2020 and will meet the upcoming BNVSAP norms. Renault is also working on an electric version of the Kwid as well as a Kwid based MPV, codenamed-RBC, which has been spotted testing on Indian roads a couple of times.
When the sales for Kwid are going down, there is another hatchback that is performing very well terms of sales. That hatchback is Tata Tiago, Tata Motors managed to sell 92,286 units of Tiagos in 2018 compared to 71,111 units in 2017.
Tata had launched three variants of Tiago in 2018. The first one was the Tiago NRG which was the Cross version of the regular hatchback. Then came the performance version Tiago JTP. It became the most affordable hot hatchback in the segment. Third was a top XZ+ variant which offered more features than the existing model. Most important features in XZ+ was the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with android auto and voice commands. The Tiago comes with both petrol and diesel engines, however AMT option is only available in petrol Tiago.
The Price of Renault Kwid starts at Rs 3.88 lakhs ex-showroom, Delhi and it competes with the cars like Maruti Alto and Datsun Redi-Go. The Price for Tata Tiago starts at Rs 4.99 lakhs ex-showroom, Delhi.
