Kwid 3

Renault is working to launch the facelifted Kwid in the Indian market and the car has been caught testing on the Indian roads for the first time. The spy pictures of the heavily camouflaged upcoming Kwid reveals a lot of design details of the car. Even though it will be only a facelift and not a full model change, the changes in the car are drastic. The new Kwid was spotted testing in Maharashtra and will be launched in the market later this year.

The pictures posted on the BikeAdvice show that the front-end design of the upcoming Kwid has been updated completely. It now gets a split headlamp set-up, which is becoming the latest design trend in the automotive world. The front-end of the upcoming Renault Kwid facelift looks inspired by the Renault K-ZE City, which is the EV version of the Kwid and will go on sale in China soon.

The glimpses of the test mule’s headlamps indicate that the vehicle will get a similar set-up like the K-ZE. It is likely to get separate housings for the headlamps and the DRLs, which will add an aggressive look to the vehicle. The upcoming Kwid is also expected to get a new grille and the LED DRLs will form the body-wide extension of the vehicle. The main headlamp cluster is positioned way below in the bumper, which will add a very aggressive look to the hatchback.

The Renault Kwid revolutionalised the design in the segment when it was the first launch in India and it is likely to repeat the history again. The brute SUV-inspired look of the Kwid made it extremely popular initially but due to the stiff competition in the market, the popularity of the Kwid has come down at the moment. The new model can definitely change that for Renault. The French manufacturer is planning to double its sales in the Indian market in the coming years and to achieve the feat, they have planned to launch a number of vehicles in the market that includes the Kwid and facelifted Duster. Renault will also launch the Kwid-based MPV that will get the name – Triber.

The Renault Kwid facelift will get an updated cabin too but the details about the interiors are not known yet. However, it is likely to get a new infotainment system with an updated dashboard to make the vehicle look fresh. Renault will continue to use the same 800cc and 1.0-litre engine options in the facelifted version of the Kwid but when the BS-VI emission norms are in place, the engines are likely to get updated accordingly. It will also continue to offer the 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT automatic transmission.
