Renault, during its recent media conference, announced its future plans for the Indian market. Renault refers to their strategic initiative as Renaulution 2024. Under this strategy, the brand plans to launch five products in the next three years. This is in addition to the €3 billion investment that the Renault Brand recently announced for the four key international hubs outside Europe, including India. Apart from the next-generation Renault Kiger and Triber, the manufacturer will launch an all-new B+ segment SUV, CSUV, and an electric car for India. While Renault has mentioned their plans about the upcoming models, they have not said anything regarding the launch timeline.

Mr. Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director of Renault India Operations, said, “Over the next three years, we are set to embark on an exhilarating journey with five product launches, encompassing both entirely new models and the next generation from our current product range. This significant stride forward is not only a testament to our commitment but also marks the introduction of the all-new Renault brand identity to the Indian market. Our primary goal is to deliver exceptional value, create delightful experiences, and evoke a renewed sense of pride among Renault owners.”

The three models that Renault will launch in India are the Renault Duster, Arkana (probably), and Kwid EV. The Triber and Kiger will certainly receive a generation update. Reports circulating online suggest that the brand will launch the new Duster in India early next year. Additionally, there is a possibility that Renault might bring the C-segment coupe SUV to India. If not, they might launch the 7-seater version of the Duster based on the Bigster concept. The Arkana is based on CMF-B, the same platform seen in the new Duster. The Duster will not be equipped with a diesel engine when it comes to India.

Not much excitement has surrounded Renault products lately. The French brand’s last launch was in 2021 with the Renault Kiger, which is Renault’s version of the Nissan Magnite. The sub-4-meter SUV has been performing well in terms of sales for the brand. Currently, it’s the only SUV available for sale from Renault in India. Both the Kiger and Triber will receive a next-generation update, while it seems Renault has other plans for the Kwid. The sub-4-meter segment is highly competitive, and the generation update would likely make the Kiger much more popular in this segment. Whether the next-generation Triber will come with the much-needed turbo petrol engine remains to be seen.

The Kwid has been Renault’s best seller for years now. A few years ago, at the Auto Expo, Renault had showcased a zero-emission version of the Kwid to the public. The car is available internationally; however, it hasn’t been introduced here. Small electric cars are gaining popularity in India, and there is a possibility that Renault might create a made-in-India version of the Kwid electric. This car would compete with models like the MG Comet, Tata Tiago EV, and Citroen eC3 hatchbacks. The upcoming electric car from Renault will see around 85-90 percent localization, which would only help them in pricing the electric car more aggressively. There is even a possibility that Renault might price it under Rs 10 lakh.
