Renault will be launching the all-new Kaptur by the end of 2017, the company has revealed today. The vehicle will be sold as the Captur and not as the Kaptur, as we have been saying before. While the vehicle will continue to be called Kaptur in the international market (Captur is a smaller SUV globally), it will be called the Captur in the Indian market.
Sumit Sawhney, CEO and MD at Renault India had the following to say:
We are delighted to announce that we will launch our premium feature loaded Renault CAPTUR in India this year, which has delivered global success and is widely acclaimed for its stunning expressive design. CAPTUR has sold over a million cars worldwide and will enhance our product portfolio as we aim to grow our presence in the SUV segment in India. Like all our offerings in India, there will high levels of innovation and customisation in the Renault CAPTUR that will be launched in India, to best suite the Indian customers.
So what do we know about the car?
The vehicle will be a 5-seater only. The car will have LED DRLs as well as LED foglamps. The car shown was shod with 17″ tyres which are 215/60/R17. This is larger than what is offered by the other vehicles. It will have 215 mm ground clearance, which means it will sit higher than the Duster. The inside cabin has white LED lighting and the glovebox is cooled. While the rear seats will be foldable, they will not have the 60:40 split, which is surprising. The top of the line variant will offer cruise control and Eco mode, as well as a speed limiter option. While part of the instrument cluster is new, the fuel gauge is the same one that is on offer on the Duster.
The company is planning to undercut the Compass with the Kaptur.
