Renault Triber has just gone through the Global NCAP crash test and it has managed to score a 4-star safety rating. The MPV scored 11.62 points out of 17 for adult occupant safety which translates to 4 stars. For child occupant safety it got 27 points out of 49 points which translates to 3 stars. The crash test was conducted at a speed of 64 kmph.
The vehicle that was tested was equipped with dual airbags, a four-channel Anti-lock braking system and seatbelt reminders. The bodyshell integrity of the Triber was rated as unstable whereas the footwell area was rated as stable. The vehicle was able to provide good protection levels to the head and necks of the driver and the front occupant.
The Renault Triber is the most affordable 7-seater vehicle that you can buy in the Indian market. The manufacturer also recently updated the Triber with some more features and paint options. The Kiger starts at Rs. 5.30 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 7.82 lakhs ex-showroom for the top-end variant. Renault offers the Triber in four variants, namely RXE, RXL, RXT, and RXZ.
It is offered only with a single-engine option which is petrol. There is no diesel engine on offer. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 72 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 96 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, you can also get an EASY-R 5-speed AMT gearbox. There is a turbocharged petrol engine that would be offered with the Triber in the future.
Commenting on this achievement Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations said,
“Safety is of paramount importance for Renault and our products meet and exceed the requisite safety standards set by Indian Regulatory Authorities. An outcome of a joint project between Renault teams in India and France, Renault TRIBER has already established itself as a successful product and has seen tremendous acceptance amongst a wide set of car buyers. This is a proud moment for Renault in India, as TRIBER was conceived, developed and produced in India, for Indian customers first, before we took it to the world. The 4-star adult safety rating by Global NCAP for TRIBER reiterates our commitment towards safety.
“This latest 4-Star adult rating reaffirms that Renault stands by its commitment to make the best in global car safety, accessible to Indian customers. As a customer-focused company, Renault is already future-ready in terms of technology, design and engineering for enhanced safety for our vehicles and Triber is a testimony to this,”
We have already seen the engine on the Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite. The engine produces 100 PS of max power and 160 Nm of peak torque. It also comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox but you can get a CVT automatic transmission with it too. As of now, the launch date of the new engine is not known. The price of the Triber with a turbocharged engine will be more than the current Triber. Renault will continue to offer both the engines with the Triber.
As standard, you get dual airbags, an Anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution, Speed Alert Warning, Seat belt reminders and rear parking sensors as safety features. If you opt for the RXL variant it would add speed sensing door lock and impact sensing door unlock and if you choose the top-end RXZ variant then you also get side airbags.
It comes with a decent equipment list as standard. It comes with projector headlamps, dual-tone dashboard, LED instrument cluster, body-coloured bumpers, manual air-conditioning with heater, fabric upholstery, front power windows, EasyFix seats, electric tailgate release, dual horn and a 12V accessory socket in the front row.
As you climb up the variants, the feature list starts to increase. You can get a height and tilt adjustment for the steering wheel, AC controls for the second and third row, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 2 speakers with 2 tweeters, a smart access card, push-button to start/stop, rearview camera, LED Daytime Running Lamps, steering mounted audio controls and much more.
