Royal Enfield 650 Anniversary Edition: 120 sold in 120 seconds

The oldest motorcycle brand in the world Royal Enfield sold 120 units of their limited production Anniversary Edition 650 twins in a record time of under 120 seconds. On the occasion of the brand’s 120th anniversary, 60 units of each, the Anniversary Edition Interceptor INT 650 and Continental GT 650 were sold via an online first-come-first-serve basis.

The sale of the motorcycles began on the 6th of December, 2021 at 7 pm IST and within the first 2 minutes, all of the 120 bikes were sold. Royal Enfield in an official statement said that they received an overwhelming response from motorcycling enthusiasts across the country.

Royal Enfield unveiled the Anniversary Edition 650 Twin motorcycles at the EICMA 2021. The company announced that to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the oldest motorcycling brand they will be launching a limited run of 480 units of the Anniversary edition Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650. These 480 units will be further divided into 120 units for the four major markets of Royal Enfield. Apart from India, Europe, the Americas, and South-East Asia will also receive these 120 units and will be sold in a similar manner.

The Anniversary Edition twins will feature a special blacked-out Royal Enfield Genuine Motorcycling Accessories kits. The rich Trivalent graphite chrome paint scheme has been developed in-house by Royal Enfield. Moreover, the bikes will feature a handcrafted, die-cast brass tank badge. Which will be made by ‘Sirpi Senthil’ family – a multi-generational artisan family from the temple town of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India.

The twins will also feature the powertrain and exhaust finished in a matte black color, along with black spoke wheels adorned with arc-shaped gold rim stickers. The lucky customers who will be taking deliveries of these 120 units will also enjoy an extended warranty for the 4th and 5th year over and above the 3 year OEM warranty on their limited edition bikes. Mechanically, the bikes will be exactly the same as the outgoing models.

The pricing for the special editions of the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 has been set at Rs 4.50 lakh and 4.80 lakh (on-road Chennai), respectively. The Anniversary Edition models have a premium of Rs 1,02,539 and Rs 1,14,501 respectively over the standard models. As the standard models of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are priced at Rs 3,47,461 and Rs 3,65,499 (on-road Chennai).

Royal Enfield has been in continuous production for the last 120 years making it the oldest brand to do so. The brand’s first-ever motorcycle rolled out of the factory in the year 1901. The bike came with a 1 1/2 hp engine mounted in front of the steering head and the rear wheel was driven by a long rawhide belt.

The brand operates through 1033 large format dealerships and 1038 studio stores in all major cities and towns in India and exports to over 60 countries around the globe.
