We have seen several type of modified motorcycles and cars from different parts of the world. In India, we have Royal Enfield motorcycle which is widely popular among custom houses across the country. We have featured several tastefully modified Royal Enfield motorcycles on our website in the past. Here we have a Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle that has been customised for Fire Fighter department. The Royal Enfield Himalayan Fire Fighter Edition costs around Rs 13.5 lakh.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) fire department has now decided to buy specilaised or custmised Royal Enfield Himlayan motorcycles. These specialised or customised motorcycles will be used to access narrow lanes at the time of an emergency. These motorcycle will also be used to clear the route before the big fire truck approaches the site.
The proposal for these motorcycles were discussed by the civic body at the standing committee meeting. In comparison to a regular Royal Enfield Himalayan, this Fire Fighter edition costs more. The reason behind this steep price is because it has been extensively modified to meet the needs of Fire Figter department. Each of these motorcycle costs Rs 13.5 lakh and it is equipped with fire fighter systems. It gets two twenty-litre water on both sides, a pump, a 100 fot pipe and the motorcycle will carry two officers each.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation chief fire officer Kiran Gawade said, “PCMC has large- and medium-sized four-wheelers in the fire department, but no two-wheelers. It is difficult to extinguish the fire in the narrow alleys and slums areas and the lives of the fire brigade team are also at stake while rescuing those trapped in the blaze. Therefore, we need firefighting motorbikes, as they have abroad.” “We have purchased three such firefighting bikes from the government web portal.”
Mr. Gawade added that these specialised motorcycle will serve two purposes. The Fire Fighter Edition Himalayan motorcycle can easily reach to small allies where normally a fire truck or a four-wheeler cannot enter or reach. In case of fire, these motorcycle can be a part of the operation and clear the route or traffic jams in advance so that the fire truck can pass without any problems. This would only help in improving the overall efficiency of the department.
This is not the first time something like this has happened. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) already has such specially designed or customised motorcycles in their fleet but, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is getting it for the first time. A week-long training would be given to the fire fighter department staff as well.
Fire Fighters have included motorcycles in their fleet in different parts of the world. In India, there are only a few states who have offered this facility to the fire fighters. Few years ago, we had featured a Bajaj Avenger from Mumbai that was modified to carry fire fighting equipment. Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a 411-cc, single cylinder, fuel injected, air-cooled engine that generates 24.31 Ps and 32 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and gets dual channel ABS as well.
