Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650: Final specifications LEAKED ahead of launch

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 retro motorcycles are just months away from launch in India. The global first ride of these twin-cylinder engined motorcycles will take place next month in the United States, and the Indian media will also be a part of that gathering. While riding impressions will take a month to be available, the final specifications of both motorcycles have been revealed fully through the leaked service manual. Both bikes will get 650-cc, parallel twin engines with 47 Bhp of peak power produced at 7,100 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque produced at 5,200 rpm. A 6-speed manual gearbox with slipper clutch will be standard.

Both motorcycles will share the double cradle frame designed by Harris Engineering of the UK, a company that is now owned by Royal Enfield. The sharing means that both bikes will have identical lengths and wheelbases, of 2,122 mm and 1,400 mm, respectively. Even the seat height is the same, at 804 mm.

The Continental GT 650 sits lower, with an overall height of 1,024 mm but a higher 789-mm width. The Interceptor 650’s higher handlebar means that it’s slightly taller, with an overall height of 1,165 mm, but it’s also narrower, with a 744-mm width. While the Continental GT 650 weighs 198 kilograms, the Interceptor is heavier by 4 KGs.

The key difference in the two motorcycles is only in the styling department, with the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 designed as a cafe racer while the Interceptor 650 is a street bike. Even the suspension travel is the same. 41-mm telescopic front forks on both bikes have a travel of 110 mm, while the gas charged twin shock absorbers at the rear offer 87.5 mm of travel. The fuel tank on the Interceptor has a capacity of 13.7 litres while that on the Continental GT 650 is slightly smaller, with a 12.5-litre capacity. The price of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is likely to start from around Rs. 3 lakhs, with the Continental GT 650 selling at a slightly higher price tag.
