Saif Ali Khan’s Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is NOT his own: We explain

Weeks ago, Bollywood movie star Saif Ali Khan was seen taking delivery of a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, the most powerful Jeep that the American SUV maker sells in the Indian market. However, we now know that the fastest Jeep in the country is not Saif’s own car, and that it’s a clever PR stunt that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles seems to have pulled-off. Here’s how.

During the vehicle’s delivery, the Grand Cherokee SRT that was handed-over to Saif by FCA India chief Kevin Flynn didn’t feature a registration number, as is the case with most new vehicles. Now, it sports a registration plate with the number MH12 PW1970.

A quick registration search on Vahan reveals that the Grand Cherokee is registered to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and not Saif Ali Khan. Jeep seems to have loaned the car to the Bollywood star for a few months/years. In return, the Grand Cherokee SRT and the Jeep brand will get a lot of publicity.

To give you an idea of how this works, here’s what happened over the weekend. Saif Ali Khan, his wife Kareena and baby-boy Taimur, were recently spotted arriving in the Grand Cherokee SRT for a Christmas party.

Needless to say, the paparazzi went shutter-crazy, and the internet is now abuzz with pictures of the family along with the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT featuring prominently in them. Expect the Grand Cherokee SRT to get similar publicity at multiple such events. Smart move, FCA.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT that Saif is driving around features a 6.4 liter V8 supercharged petrol engine that produces 470 Bhp of peak power and 640 Nm of peak torque. An 8 speed automatic gearbox is standard and so is an all wheel drive system. The SUV goes from standstill to 100 Kph in just 4.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 257 Kph. It’s priced at Rs. 1.14 crores and is imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU).
