Recently, movie star Shahrukh Khan completed 27 years in the Bollywood film industry. His first movie was called Deewana, which had him singing a song astride a motorcycle. To commemorate his 27 year-old journey in the movie business, the actor recently recreated the scene from Deewana, outside his home – Mannat – in Mumbai’s plush Bandra bandstand area. He rode a BMW G 310R naked sportsbike with a song from Deewana playing in the background. BMW Motorrad’s Mumbai dealer sent Shahrukh Khan the G 310R and GS 310R specially for this. Check out the video with the Bollywood actor on a BMW G 310R.
As the video indicates, Shahrukh Khan is riding the BMW G 310R without a helmet, at a slow speed on his home’s driveway. The actor does advocate the use of a helmet at the end of this video. Coming to the motorcycles themselves, Shahrukh Khan says that they were sent by BMW Motorrad for him to try out. It’s not clear if the actor intends to purchase one or both of these motorcycles, which are the entry-level models that BMW sells in the Indian market.
In the past year or so, there have been multiple celebrity owners of these motorcycles. Yuvraj Singh, Saurav Ganguly and more recently Shahid Kapoor are three well known celebrities who own the BMW G 310R naked sportbike. We won’t be surprised to see Shahrukh Khan get one of these machines in the coming weeks. So far, Shahrukh Khan has mostly been a car guy rather than a motorcycle enthusiast. He’s known for his multiple BMWs including 7-Series luxury saloons and a 650i convertible.
BMW Motorrad launched the G 310R and GS 310R last year as premium yet relatively affordable motorcycles. The G 310R was launched at Rs. 2.99 lakhs while the GS 310R commanded a Rs. 3.49 lakh price tag. Both motorcycles initially clocked decent numbers but sales have been ever since as there are a lot of other motorcycles that offer better value-for-money. BMW Motorrad’s dealers have been running attractive discounts and 0 % interest rate loan schemes on both motorcycles.
The BMW G 310R and GS 310R are built by TVS Motors at Hosur, in collaboration with BMW Motorrad. Both motorcycles aree extensively localized and share many parts including their engines and gearboxes with the TVS Apache RR 310. Styling, suspension and ergonomics are completely different though, and so is after sales service. The street focused G 310R and GS 310R are powered by the 311cc, reverse inclined four stroke single cylinder engine that puts out 34 Bhp-28 Nm. A 6 speed manual gearbox is standard on both motorcycles, whose engines get fuel injection, liquid cooling and four valve heads with twin overhead camshafts. Suspension travel on the GS 310R is higher thanks to its positioning as an on-off road motorcycle even though both bikes share upside down front forks and monoshock rear suspension. Disc brakes on both wheels with dual channel ABS is standard on both motorcycles.
