Skoda cars haven’t really been flying off the shelves lately with sales of the Fabia and the Laura sinking quite a bit. The Skoda Rapid has been selling reasonably well though. However, being the end of the year, Skoda is offering some attractive discounts of up to Rs. 1.5 lakh on its models.
Here is a look at the various discounts being offered by Skoda dealers in December.
Skoda Fabia
Up to Rs. 55,000 off
The Skoda Fabia is one of the most spacious cars in the premium hatchback segment, and one of the few to feature rear AC vents under the front seats. It comes with a comfortable rear seat and adequate boot space of over 300 litres. The car shares its engines with the Volkswagen Polo, with a 1.2 diesel and 1.2 petrol three cylinder engines putting out 74 bhp of power.
Skoda is offering a Rs. 55,000 cash discount on the Fabia across all models, petrol and diesel. This makes the Skoda Fabia quite an attractive proposition, although it is still quite expensive even after the discount. For instance, the top-end Skoda Fabia 1.2 TDI Elegance diesel sells for Rs. 7.43 lakh ex-showroom. After the discount, the ex-showroom price comes to about Rs. 6.88 lakh, which is about the same price as the Volkswagen Polo Highline diesel, and about Rs. 20,000 more than the Maruti Swift ZDI. Skoda Laura
Up to Rs. 90,000 off
Skoda is offering up to Rs. 90,000 as a cash discount on the Skoda Laura this month, which makes the car a lot more affordable, especially the Ambition manual transmission variant. The Laura Ambition MT diesel is priced at Rs. 14.65 lakh, and after the discount it comes to Rs. 13.75 lakh, making it competitive with cars such as the Chevrolet Cruze and Hyundai Elantra, whose mid-variants are in a similar price range.
If you look at the top-end Skoda Laura Elegance automatic, priced at Rs. 17.26 lakh, the discount makes it competitive, but not enough. It is still at a premium compared to cars such as the Chevrolet Cruze and the Hyundai Elantra diesel – whose top-end automatic is priced at Rs 15.9 lakh. The Chevrolet Cruze LTZ automatic, which is the most powerful sedan in this segment, is also priced at Rs. 15.88 lakh, much cheaper than the Laura Elegance diesel. Skoda Rapid
Up to Rs. 75,000 off
The Skoda Rapid is at present the best-selling Skoda car, with monthly sales hovering just over a 1000 units. Skoda is offering hefty discounts of up to Rs. 75,000 on the diesel model range of the Skoda Rapid, while the petrol Rapid gets a discount of Rs. 35,000 on the ex-showroom price.
After the discount, the Skoda Rapid diesel is a much better value-for-money offering in the diesel mid-size sedan segment, becoming significantly cheaper than the Volkswagen Vento. The Vento is priced at Rs. 9.89 lakh for the Vento Highline diesel, while the Rapid is at Rs. 9.71 lakh. After the discount, the Rapid is available for Rs. 8.96 lakh, making it great value for money and competing with cars such as the Nissan Sunny diesel and becoming cheaper than the Renault Scala diesel. Skoda Yeti
Up to Rs. 60,000 off
Skoda is offering a cash discount of Rs. 60,000 on all models of the Skoda Yeti to clear stocks. Last year, Skoda was offering close to Rs. 2 lakh off on the Yeti Elegance 4×4 to get rid of 2011 model inventory and that scheme was quite well received. The Rs. 60,000 off on the Skoda Yeti, doesn’t really make it any better value for money than its competition, but any discount is a good discount.
With this Rs. 60,000 cash discount the top-end Yeti Elegance 4×4 is available for Rs. 17.16 lakh ex-showroom, which is still more than vehicles like the Mahindra XUV500 or the Tata Aria, but a good deal anyway. The entry-level Yeti Active 4×2 now comes at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 13.65 lakh, which is still about Rs. 40,000 more than the Mahindra XUV500 (2WD) variant, and it does not have as many features either. Skoda Superb
Up to Rs. 1.5 lakh off
Skoda is offering a huge Rs. 1.5 lakh cash discount on the Skoda Superb luxury sedan. The Superb is a value-for-money car in its own right when compared with other luxury sedans for the kind of features and space that it offers. The Superb comes in both petrol and diesel variants, with the top-end 3.6 litre V6 petrol being recently discontinued in India. It now has a 1.8 160 bhp petrol and a 2-litre 140 bhp diesel. With this cash discount of Rs. 1.5 lakh off, the Skoda Superb entry-level 1.8 petrol Ambition variant is available for Rs. 16.6 lakh ex-showroom, while the top-end Superb Elegance diesel is available for Rs. 22.88 lakh, making it good value for money, for those looking at a luxury car.
Skoda dealers have quite a bit of inventory of Skoda cars and if you bargain hard, you can extend some of these deals as well as get reasonably speedy delivery of the car with minimum waiting.
