Skoda India – Upcoming cars for 2014 and 2015

Snapshot – Skoda India started this year with a bang, by showcasing the facelifted Yeti and Superb cars at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. While the Superb Facelift has been launched in India, the automaker has followed the Superb up with the special edition Rapid Ultima sedan. In the next year and a half, Skoda is likely to launch four new cars in India even as the Czech car maker owned by the Volkswagen group is rapidly losing marketshare. The new launches are expected to put Skoda back on track in India.

Yeti Facelift

The Yeti is a powerful and capable compact SUV that is priced under 20 lakh rupees. Globally, the Yeti received a facelift last year and the cosmetically revamped version will be launched in India this year. The facelifted Yeti was showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, with its official launch and price announcement likely to happen in the second half of the year. The facelifted Yeti will retain its 2 liter TDI turbo diesel engine in 108 Bhp-250 Nm and 138 Bhp-320 Nm states of tune. The 108 Bhp diesel engine gets a 5 speed manual gearbox driving the front wheels while the 138 Bhp diesel motor gets a 6 speed manual gearbox driving all four wheels.

Octavia vRS

Skoda introduced the 2013 Octavia in India last year. The first MQB platform based car in the Indian market, the 2013 Octavia has been a grand success for the Czech brand. The Octavia nameplate was instrumental in introducing India to Skoda’s high performance vRS badge in its first and second generations. The third generation Octavia will follow suit with the vRS high performance version of the Octavia expected to be launched in the second half of this year in India. Apart from tweaked suspension and revised body work, the 2014 Octavia vRS that is sold internationally gets turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines. India is likely to get the 2 liter TDI engined model that outputs 181 Bhp-350 Nm.

Rapid Sedan Facelift

A best selling car for Skoda in India, the Rapid C-Segment sedan will get a facelift soon. The design changes on the facelift are being engineered by Mahindra Engineering Services. The facelifted Rapid could look quite unique, and stand apart from the Euro-spec version, which was long touted to be the inspiration behind facelift that the Indian Rapid would eventually get. The India-spec Rapid facelift is expected to dig into the new 1.4 liter-3 cylinder TDI turbo diesel engine that replaces the 1.6 liter TDI motor globally. Also, a 1.2 liter TSI turbo petrol engine and a DSG dual clutch automatic gearbox are the other upgrades expected on the facelifted Rapid.

All-new Fabia Hatchback

Skoda has hopped onto the Volkswagen MQB platform with great gusto and the next-generation Fabia hatchback will use the NVQ platform, Skoda’s internal nomenclature for the MQB platform. The all-new Fabia is expected to come with a more youthful design with its connectivity bits heavily optimized to appeal to younger buyers. The all-new Fabia will is expected to adopt an full turbo engine line up with TSI and TDI motors sourced from the Volkswagen group’s MQB platform. The new Fabia will be a prelude of sorts to the all-new Volkswagen Polo that is due next year.
