The second half of the year has been very active for Skoda India. Not only did they introduce the all-new Octavia, but they also introduced the special Rapid Monte Carlo edition and the fastest Skoda, the vRS in the Indian market. Keeping the momentum going, the company will be introducing their all-new flagship SUV, the Kodiaq on the 4th of October.
The Kodiaq is a full sized 7-seater SUV that will sit above the Superb when it comes to Skoda’s positioning in India. The vehicle will be powered by a 2.0 liter TDI engine. What is not clear is the state of tune though. In India, we either have the 141 Bhp state of tune in the Tiguan or we have the more powerful 174 Bhp state of tune in the Superb.Initial reports suggest that it will sadly be the former that will be offered on the Kodiaq. Surprisingly the Superb will end up being more powerful. We expect a manual and an automatic to be offered. The company could also bring in the 1.8 liter or the 2.0 liter petrol engine, if they want petrol power. Till now, Skoda has never introduced a petrol engine in their SUVs. They have had the Yeti, which was recently discontinued and while it was highly capable, the company couldn’t get high volumes for it.
The company will offer both AWD and front wheel drive variants of the vehicle when it goes on sale next month. This will take on the likes of the Fortuner and Endeavour.
As far as features are concerned, we expect LED headlamps, LED tail lamps and LED foglamps to be on offer on the outside. We hope the company brings the automatic door protector as well to India. On the inside, you will get a large touch screen system with Apple Car play and Android Auto.
