Skoda Kushaq celebrates first birthday; gets new features

After selling a record number of 6,023 units of its automobiles in the month of June, the Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto recently announced a new model for its highly popular SUV Kushaq. The company has also introduced a host of updates and changes for the compact SUV to commemorate the occasion of its first anniversary in India and the world. With these new additions, the Kushaq now gets more features in its list than it was initially launched with in the country. Currently, Kushaq is the top seller for the brand in the country as well.

Speaking on the occasion, Zac Hollis, Brand Director, ŠKODA AUTO India said, “The KUSHAQ is the hero of INDIA 2.0 and one year on, it has been instrumental in ŠKODA AUTO India climbing one sales peak after another, with a legion of happy and satisfied customers. In line with our customer-centric approach, we use this landmark occasion in the KUSHAQ’s life cycle to introduce a host of updates that further enhance the user experience and all-new variants providing more value to our fans and users.”

In terms of updates, the entire Kushaq series now comes standard with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and a new Headliner in the interior. Furthermore, the Start-Stop Recuperation system is a standard feature on all 1.0 TSI models. THe company claims that this addition has resulted in a 7-9% increase in fuel economy. A 20.32cm Skoda Infotainment System with knobs and buttons for specific tasks has also been added to the Kushaq, improving ergonomics and driver simplicity of use.

Additionally, the company has also introduced a new trim that is the Non-Sunroof (NSR) Style trim for the SUV. The new trim is sandwiched between the contemporary Ambition and Style variations. The 1.0 TSI Style is the foundation for the NSR Style variation. It will also come exclusively with the 6-speed manual transmission and include a 4-dial medium analogue instrument cluster, giving the consumer still another affordable option. The top-tier Style variation with the Sunroof is now equipped with a 20.32cm Skoda Virtual Cockpit in place of analogue dials for the driver’s instrument panel.

The company hasn’t made any major mechanical adjustments, and the Kushaq continues to sport the 1.0 TSI’s choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The popular 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG automatic transmission will also be available for the performance-oriented 1.5 TSI EVO engine. The Kushaq line now comes in five variations: Active, Ambition, Style (NSR), Style, and the just-released Kushaq Monte Carlo edition.

In other Skoda news, the company as mentioned earlier broke its own record of selling the highest number of cars in a month. The company is breaking its own sales records and setting new ones month after month as a result of its INDIA 2.0 strategy, which it implemented in 2018. In India, 6,023 Skodas have found new homes as of June 2022. This comes after 5,608 units in March 2022 broke a record that had stood for ten years. June 2022 had an increase of 721 percent year over year compared to the 734 vehicles sold in June 2021. Above all, Skoda Auto India has sold 28,899 units so far in H1 2022, surpassing its yearly sales of 23,858 units in 2021.
