Skoda Kushaq compact SUV’s delivery timeline revealed

Skoda Kushaq is all set to launch by the end of this month. The bookings of the new SUV will also start on the same day and the prices will also be announced on the same date. The deliveries of the new SUV will be starting in July. This information has been confirmed by Zac Hollis, Brand Director – Sales, Service and Marketing, Skoda Auto India.

The Kushaq will be competing in the mid-size SUV segment which is one of the most competitive segments in our county. It will be going against more affordable crossovers the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks. Then its main rivalry will be against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. Because of the pricing, it will also go against the MG Hector, Mahindra Scorpio and the Tata Harrier. The prices of the Kushaq are expected to start from just above Rs. 10 lakhs ex-showroom and go all the way upto Rs. 17 lakhs ex-showroom.

The Kushaq will be offered in two petrol engine options. There will be a 1.0-litre TSI engine that produces 115 PS of max power and 175 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This will be aimed at people who are on a budget.

People who are enthusiasts or want more oomph from the SUV can opt for the 1.5-litre TSI that produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG DQ200 automatic transmission. This engine will also come with Active Cylinder Technology. Due to this, the engine is able to deactivate two of its cylinders which helps in saving fuel.

It would be offered in three variants, namely Active, Ambition and Style. It is not yet known which engine will be offered with which variant. The same goes for automatic transmissions. We do not know which variant will be offered with an automatic transmission. Having said that we do know some of the features that the Kushaq will be offering.

The base variant which is named Active will come with halogen headlamps with separate LED Daytime Running Lamps It will also have LED tail lamps. There would also be a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As standard, you will get Electronic Stability Control, an Anti-lock braking system with Electronic brake distribution and dual airbags.

The Ambition which is the mid variant will come with alloy wheels, LED projector headlamps with integrated LED Daytime Running Lamps, automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, ambient lighting and leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever. It will have a larger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The top-end Style variant will come with larger dual-tone alloy wheels, keyless entry, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming rearview mirror, an electric sunroof, seatback mobile pockets, amplifier and a subwoofer. It would come with 6 airbags instead of two.

Volkswagen will also be launching the Taigun which will share the underpinning with the Kushaq. It will have the same engine and transmissions and the MQB-AO-IN platform. The Taigun is expected to launch around Diwali. It is also expected to be priced slightly on the higher side when compared to the Kushaq.
