Skoda launches new Octavia in India

The Czech carmaker Skoda has launched the facelifted Octavia in India. The new car is priced at Rs. 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the top-end diesel variant is priced at Rs. 22.89 lakh.

What has changed?

Skoda has updated the front-end of the vehicle that now gets split headlamp set-up. The low beams and the high beams are now housed in different compartments. Skoda has also added new LED DRLs under the headlamps. The grille has also been updated and is split from the middle. Skoda has also added a newly designed bumper up front.

The bonnet gets slight changes with two new strong crease lines defining the character of the vehicle. From the side, the Octavia remains same as the previous vehicle. At the rear, Octavia stays the same but get an all-new LED tail lamp cluster that makes it look very premium.

On the inside, the new Octavia gets the familiar layout. There is a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that gets Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. The new Octavia also gets ambient lighting. The ABS+EBD and rear parking sensors are standard across all the variants.

Skoda offers three variants – Ambition, Style and Style+. The base variant, Ambition gets 16-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, LED DRLs, halogen headlamps, touchscreen infotainment with Smartlink capability, dual zone climate control, dual airbags, front and side airbags, ABS+EBD and rear parking sensors.

The mid-level, Style variant gets LED headlamps, Crystalglo LED DRLs, auto dimming mirrors (all over), front parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, a newer 8-inch touchscreen, leather seats and electronically folding rear view mirrors.

The top-end Style+ variant gets electronically adjustable driver’s seat (12 way), new 16-inch alloy wheels, 8 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, LED ambient lighting with 10 colour options with brightness level, hands-free parking system, driver fatigue alert and a huge panoramic sunroof.

Mechanicals:

The new Skoda Octavia retains the older engine choices. There are two petrol engines and one diesel engine option. The entry-level 1.4-litre petrol engine also powers the Audi A3 and the Audi A4. It produces a maximum power of 148 Bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. There is more powerful 1.8-litre unit too. It produces a maximum power of 177 Bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm. This larger petrol engine comes with 7-speed DSG only. The diesel engine option is a 2.0-litre unit that generates a maximum power of 141 Bhp and 320 Nm torque. It comes with 6-speed manual or automatic option.
