The all-new Skoda Octavia is based on an updated MQB platform. With the updated platform, the size of the Octavia has become bigger. It is now longer by 19mm and the total length is now at 4,689mm. It is also 15mm wider at 1829mm. However, the wheelbase is slightly shorter than the previous version and that makes the overhangs stick out.
2021 Skoda Octavia gets some mega visual updates as well. There is a new chrome grille at the front and brand-new headlamps too. Customers can also choose the optional Matrix LED headlamps that make the sedan much more premium.
Skoda has also updated the bumper with a chrome strip now connecting the LED foglamps. At the rear, the design of the boot lid is now much sharper and there is a Skoda emblem across the boot lid. The tail lamps are also brand-new and are much sleeker than before. Even the rear bumper has been updated and it now offers a much sharper look.
Skoda has also thoroughly updated the cabin of the Octavia. The new dashboard layout will remind you of the shape of the new radiator grille. There is a long list of features available with the sedan as well. There is a free-standing 10.0-inch infotainment system in the middle of the dashboard. The instrument cluster of 10.25-inch, which Skoda calls as Virtual Cockpit also looks extremely advanced.
The dashboard itself is beige in a colour that adds to the classy feel of the cabin. The two-spoke steering wheel is also new and is wrapped in leather. There are gloss black inserts all over that again adds a touch of sportiness. The Octavia gets Canton surround sound system, two-zone climate control system, powered tailgate with virtual pedal, wireless smartphone charging system and a lot of other features.
Since the Volkswagen Group has decided to move away from diesel engines, Skoda has also started offering only petrol options in India. The all-new Skoda Octavia also only offers a petrol engine. It gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of around 190 PS. There will be no manual transmission available with this car.
The engine comes paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard. The old conventional transmission lever is now replaced with a toggle switch. It replaces the conventional linkage to the gearbox and replaces it with an electronic set-up.
Coming to safety, the Skoda Octavia offers eight airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, EBD, multi-collision brake assist, mechanical brake assist, electronic differential lock, and anti-slip regulation among many other features.
