Skoda has reopened bookings for its fastest car – the Octavia vRS. A high performance version of the regular Skoda Octavia, the vRS variant combines the practicality of four doors with the thrilling performance of a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The car, which went on sale last year in India, soon went out of stock after the first couple of lots, consisting of 250 units, were sold out within months of launch. Skoda is now bringing in a new lot of the Octavia vRS to India, which explains why bookings have reopened. Deliveries of the car will happen during the festive season. An exact launch date will be revealed soon.
The Octavia vRS is powered by a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that outputs 220 Bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The motor drives the front wheels of the car by means of a 6-speed, twin-clutch automatic gearbox. The Octavia vRS gets stiffer suspension to make it handle more sharply than the regular Octavia. The car also sits lower, making it feel sportier to drive. Other key changes on the Octavia vRS when compared with the regular model include 17-inch alloy wheels, a bootlid spoiler, vRS badging and side skirts. Safety gets prime focus with 9 airbags, ABS+EBD, traction control, ESP and a park assist system.
As for key features offered on the inside, the Octavia vRS gets a 9.2-touchscreen system with Apple Car play and Android Auto, Mirrorlink, auto parking, key-less go, ambient lighting strips, Alcantara sports bucket seats, black leather upholstery with red stitching, multi function vRS steering wheel with paddle shifters and LED head lamps.
Like all other Octavias sold in India, the Octavia vRS is assembled through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit form at Skoda’s Aurangabad factory. The car is priced at Rs. 26.78 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. and the 2018 model is expected to cost roughly similar. Tuners in India have already begun remapping the Octavia vRS, boosting power and torque to sportscar levels.
