Skoda Octavia vRS sold out in India

The first batch of 250 Skoda Octavia vRS sedans allocated for India has been sold out. The next batch will be assembled next year. Until then, you can’t buy the Octavia vRS, which is the fastest car under Rs. 30 lakhs in India. The high performance Octavia vRS is one of the few such cars to have succeeded in India. This is mainly due to the great brand value the vRS has in India, and also due to the fact that the car has been priced very competitively at Rs. 24.62 lakhs.

The reason Skoda has been able to price the vRS competitively is because of local assembly through completely knocked down (CKD) kits. In the past, high performance cars like the Fiat Punto Abarth and the Avventura Abarth have not really done well in India despite good pricing. So it is not just good pricing that does the trick for a powerful variant of a car.

The brand also needs to have enough credibility among buyers for them to put down the money. Almost every batch of the vRS has been successful, right from the first generation model. The car uses a 2 liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 230 Bhp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed dual clutch automatic transmission powers the front wheels of the car.

Skoda has chosen the 6 speed DSG gearbox instead of the 7 speed unit mainly because it can handle more torque than the latter. Other changes on the exteriors of the car include a body kit, blacked-out trims, 17-inch alloy wheels a tailgate spoiler and new exhaust tips. The interiors of the car get a new touchscreen infotainment unit, 9 airbags, ESP and a park assist system. The extensive set of features make it a very well rounded car. This appeals to enthusiasts who want a high-performance vehicle that can also be used as a family car.
