Skoda recently launched the Rapid’s Matte Edition in the Indian market. It starts at Rs. 11.99 lakhs ex-showroom and it is a limited edition variant. Skoda will be making only 400 units of the sedan. Here, we have the first walkaround video of the Skoda Rapid Matte Edition. The video is uploaded on YouTube by AutoTrend TV.
We can see in the video that the Matte Edition gets chrome delete. So, there is no chrome on the outside of the sedan. Even the butterfly grille is finished in matte black and gets a piano black surround. The matte paint itself is based on the Carbon Steel Grey that is offered with the Rapid. The alloy wheels measure 16-inches in size and are gloss black in colour. These are the same alloy wheels that are offered with the Onyx variant of the Rapid.
The door handles of the Rapid Matte Edition are also finished in piano black. In the video, the sedan is missing the black spoiler and the trunk garnish. Both of these things are fitted at dealership levels and are installed before the delivery. The outside rearview mirrors are also finished in piano-black. The Matte Edition of the Rapid might look better and attract a lot of attention but it is important to note that it will also be a lot more difficult to maintain.
On the inside, the equipment level stays the same. The only difference is that the dual-paint scheme comes with black and grey instead of black and beige. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and comes with a flat-bottom. It is a multi-function unit. It does misses out on cruise control.

Powering the Matte Edition Rapid is the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged TSI petrol engine that produces 110 PS of max power and 175 Nm of peak torque. You can get it with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The manual gearbox is priced at Rs. 11.99 lakhs ex-showroom whereas the automatic transmission is priced at Rs. 13.49 lakhs ex-showroom.
The Matte Edition of the Rapid was showcased first at the Auto Expo 2020 but that also had orange accents which the production spec version misses out on. It is more expensive than the Skoda Rapid Matte Edition because it comes with automatic transmission only.
