It is no secret that Skoda is working on a new version of the Rapid. The vehicle has been spied a few times before and we happened to get pictures of the car from a dealer stockyard. The launch is scheduled for the 3rd of November. The Rapid is the cheapest car in Skoda’s Indian portfolio currently since they do not have any hatchback.
The new Rapid borrows design cues from its international Rapid sibling and is more inline with the global Skoda design theme instead of the vehicle being India specific. The car now has sharper lines up front, the new family grill, a new set of head lamps with LEDs at the bottom which look really nice. The bumper too receives some minor changes to give the vehicle a fresh look. On the side, the only thing that has changed is the alloy wheel pattern and there is not much change at the rear either, except a slightly redesigned rear bumper.
On the inside, the Rapid will now carry the same VW touchscreen unit with Mirrorlink that has been available on the Ameo, the Polo and the Vento for sometime now. No other changes are expected on the inside. There maybe a few more features that get added, but that will only be known at the time of the launch.
Under the hood, there is a major change in the diesel front. The 1.5 liter engine has an updated turbo now and it churns out 108 Bhp of max power as opposed to the 103 that the previous vehicle made. Torque figures remain the same at 250 Nm though. The diesel will continue to have the option of the 5 speed manual and the 7 speed DSG as was there previously. On the petrol front, the same 1.6 liter MPi unit will continue to be offered with a 5 speed manual. The engine produces 104 Bhp and 153 Nm.
Pricing details of the vehicle will be released on the 3rd of November.
