Skoda Rapid Automatic turbo-petrol sedan launched: Cheaper than Honda City Manual

Skoda has finally launched the automatic version of the Rapid in the Indian market. The new variant will join the manual variants of the model. The automatic variant is available with several different variants and the base price is Rs 9.49 lakhs, ex-showroom, India. With the new addition, the Rapid will be more armed to take on the rivals like Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and more such vehicles.

The Skoda Rapid is only available with a single 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The three-cylinder engine generates a maximum power of 110 PS and peak torque of 172 Nm. The new automatic transmission is a 6-speed torque converter unit just like the Volkswagen Polo. Skoda claims that with the automatic transmission, the Rapid will return a maximum fuel efficiency of 16.24 km/l. The 6-speed manual transmission of the car returns a maximum of 18.97 km/l as per ARAI test cycle. The new Rapid AT offers 9% more fuel-efficient compared to the last version of the automatic. Also, the new Rapid TSI automatic has become more affordable compared to the previous model that offered a Dual-Clutch Automatic transmission or DSG. Compared to the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine, which has now been replaced with the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine, the Rapid now produces a 5% more power and 14% more torque.

Skoda started accepting the pre-launch bookings for the new car at Rs 25,000. The deliveries are likely to begin soon. The car comes with a decent list of features that includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink connectivity, rain-sensing wipers, leatherette seat upholstery, flat-bottom-steering wheel, dual-zone climate control system, rear AC vents, reverse parking camera, footwell illumination, height-adjustable driver seat and more. Safety-wise, the features include standard dual airbags across the variants, ABS, EBD, reverse parking sensors, and speed alert system as standard. The top-end variant also gets four-airbags and cruise control system as standard.

On the outside, the automatic variants look similar to the manual variants. There are no changes in the looks. The top-end version gets projector headlamps with LED DRLs, front and rear fog lamps, rear diffuser, body-coloured spoiler, front and window green tint glasses with infrared cut, and more. Skoda has also introduced extended warranty programs that can cover the vehicle for the 5th and 6th years too.
