The roaring success of the newest mid-size SUV Kushaq from the Czech manufacturer Skoda has revived the brand in India. The automaker has seen a gargantuan growth in year-on-year sales of automobiles. Another reason for this growth is the expansion of the dealership network.
Ever since the launch of the Kushaq in the June of this year, the SUV has been creating a lot of hype around the rather subdued brand Skoda. Owing to this SUV, Škoda Auto has seen a two-fold increase of 108 percent in sales in November this year.

The Czech carmaker was able to tally a sales report of 2,196 cars last month, which when compared to the 1,056 units of the same month from the year before seems cosmic. Out of those 2,196 units, the majority is contributed by the mid-size SUV Kushaq itself. Apart from this, the company has also revealed that Kushaq has received over 20,000 reservations across the nation since the day of its debut.
Skoda has also stated that its other offerings like the Octavia and the Superb have also reported good sales figures in the previous month. Another car that has reported the same is the now discontinued Rapid. The mid-size sedans production has been ceased and it has made the way for the newest vehicle of the Skoda portfolio, the Slavia.
Skoda has put a ton of effort into the new mid-size premium sedan, Slavia. The car has been very well received by the people, along with all the media. Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, Skoda Slavia will be the second vehicle after Kushaq to drive Skoda Auto’s India 2.0 plan. This mid-size premium sedan is expected the continue the momentum that the mid-size SUV has created for the brand in the country.
The Skoda Slavia measures 4,531 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width, and gets a 2,651 mm-long wheelbase. Slavia features the trademark Skoda grille, along with swept-back LED headlights and L-shaped LED DRLs. The 10-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, split C-shaped LED tail light all provide a cutting-edge modern look. Skoda has also equipped the Slavia’s interior with a 10-inch touchscreen, smartphone connectivity, connected car technology, multi-function steering wheel, fully digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents, automatic AC, ventilated front seats, sunroof, cruise control, automatic headlamps, etc.
The sedan will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 113bhp and 175Nm, the latter produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic, and a 7-speed DSG.
Another contributing factor to the recent success of Skoda in India is its increasing dealership network. The company reported that its customer touchpoints in southern parts of the country grew by 84 percent during the last year and it has contributed to an increase of 90 percent in sales across the region. The brand also revealed that its dealership network has grown from 38 to 70 touchpoints in 2021. The company wants to get closer to its customers, in order to further increase sales and provide customers with better after-sales services.
