Skoda is working on a new mid-size sedan that has been codenamed ANB. The new sedan will be unveiled at the end of this year. It is expected to en called Slavia as they are using this name in the foreign markets for a sedan. Also, they have filed a trademark for the same name. The Slavia is expected to launch in the first half of 2022. Here, is the first rendering of the Skoda Slavia done at IAB by an in-house artist.
The rendering only shows the front quarter of the new sedan. The rear has not been rendered by the artist. The rendering has been based on spy shots and some of the design elements has been taken from the current Rapid. However, when Skoda finally unveils the Slavia for the Indian market, there is a high chance that it will end up looking quite different from the render. But still, the rendering gives us a glimpse of what can we expect from the Skoda designers.
Up-front we see triangular LED headlamps with projector setup. There is an LED Daytime Running Lamp that neatly integrates with the chrome surround of Skoda’s grille. The grille itself is quite large and is inspired by the current Rapid. There are hints of Octavia’s bumper in the rendering with the slim air dam and slim fog lamps. The same goes for the sculpted bonnet that we first saw on the Octavia.
At the side profile, the alloy wheels resemble the alloy wheels found on the Style variant of the Octavia. There is a fender badging which says, Skoda. We have seen the same design on the Kushaq mid-size SUV which will be launching on June 28th. Just like other Skoda models, the rendered Slavia has simple body lines that flow on the side profile.
The new sedan will also be a notchback which means that it would have a hatchback type tailgate. Having a notchback design increases the practicality of the car by quite a margin. This is one of the design elements that has been present in Octavia since the beginning. At the rear, there will be a slim pair of tail lamps.
Powering the Slavia will be the same petrol engine options as the Kushaq. So, there will be a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI engine. There will be no diesel engines available with the Slavia. The 1.0-litre TSI would produce 115 PS of max power and 175 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The 1.5-litre TSI would produce 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Underpinning the Slavia will be similar components as the Kushaq. It will also use the MQB-A0-IN platform. So, the wheelbase will measure 2,651 mm. Some other Volkswagen vehicles will also be using the same platform. This will help in pricing Slavia competitively in the Indian market.
